Yeah thats true. i kinda like the look too =) i glued some basswood in there to give it more MEAT...it should work out ok. im still not sure about the whole strut setup. my elam strut mounts underneath, but im not sure wheather i will use that type of one that mounts to the rear facia of the transom. ay thoughts on that jesse? btw john-tom.com has some good plans. there is a 72" mono hull plan on there. check it out if you havent already, Dana

got the plans, I will add to link (as long as they are free, the more the better!).

Strut options are pretty limited - you need to go non-stinger due to coming out below the tunnel. I just don't see a way to adjust the strut if you leave the overhang....

I was wondering if I should put some possible methods... I updated the page with some options, but you wanna take em to Staples/Kinkos or similar and ask them to plot them out at 100%. then you have the paper plans. Typically one cuts the parts out and paper-stick glues them to the balsa/ply and goes to the band saw or hobby knife.

Others send them to laser cutters. I don't have any links yet, hopefully people will send them to me and I can add to my page.

Dana, here is a clip of my 27" where I shot some at the rear, this might give you an idea what I am thinking about as far as strut adjustments.

                    damn

thats fast! i see what you mean about the strut. are you familiar with the proboat elam? the mount the strut underneath but near the back where the transom and bottom of the boat meet. its not an adjustable strut however and is a real pain to get the flexshaft out to grease but your i like. i think to leave the transom flush will require a strut/rudder combo. kinda like the blackjack 26, only of better quality.

A buddy of mine has a 42" version... as you go up in size, problems seem to increase faster. Material wise, you will need to be much stronger as you span larger areas in the hull. This needs to follow the square of the area spanned as water hits the hull as PSI (pounds per SQUARE inch). Thus many of the very large cats done in CF. Now if you wanted to build it out of CF and make it super strong.......... why stop at 54"? I have a set of plans scaled to 72" if you want, they wouldn't fit on my website.

I set up an Elam. Know it well. here is sale thread- I ran a build thread as a parallel build with Bustit, you gotta scroll down some to get to the orange and white.

Not sure what your question is...........

i worked on my balsa cat today...mainly sanding and more epoxy, but here are a few pics. yes i will eventually finish this thing, just not in a hurry really. still not sure what kinda strut and cable im gonna use.... i was thinking .150 cable and a simple adjustable strut with 3/16 shaft. its a 30 inch hull...so i suppose that setup will work??? anyone?
