    Timing question for Rigger Build

    Hi Guys
    Im setting up my Rigger. I'm running it on 4S with a Seaking 120 and a Feigao 8XL. When setting up the ESC do you think it makes much of a difference what the timing is set at ?? The default looks to be 15 deg. Thanks Phil

    That is good timing for a 6 pole motor. I like to run low timing for a 2 pole motor.

        So 3 or 4 degrees? (Feigao 540 cans are 2 poles.)

          It sounds like one of the lower settings would be best ?? Can anyone explain what effect the timing setting has ?

              Brushless motors are no different than brushed motors regarding timing. The "optimum" amount of timing advance depends on the impedence of the motor and the actual amp draw of the motor when running - the higher the amp draw, the more advance is required. 2-pole motors in boats are different animals than when they are used in cars - forget the car-oriented advice. Too little timing will cause overheating and low performance, too much timing will cause overheating with no increase in performance. For racing applications with a 9XL I got the best balance with around 15 degrees, but then I was drawing more than a typical sport boater would draw. Try it at different values, from 5 degrees to 20 and see what works best for YOUR application.
