OK from the TRANSOM to the rear set of screw holes in the servo is 360mm
Make sure you use a hi-torque servo like the Hitec 5645Comment

Some building comments
I have found that epoxy dipping does not waterproof an esc, eventually the epoxy/silicon insulation wire joint will leak and kill the esc. I now use "Permatex Sensor-Safe Blue RTV silicone gasket maker" to seal things. It is much better at sealing to silicone wire insulation, just try pulling a gob of it from a silicone wire - you likely cannot! It is under 4$ at Wal-Mart.
I now use Traxxas 2075 servos (digital, hi torque) which actually seem to be waterproof (so far). You need to use a servo saver Traxxas #3744 with the servo, or you will strip the plastic gears when you come down sideways.
To waterproof a pushrod, install a brass tube with a rubber boot. You can seal the boot to the tube and pushrod with the Permatex, and add an O-ring around the tube/seal by stretching & sliding the O-ring over a larger tube, sliding the larger tube over the boot, and rolling the O-ring onto the tube/seal.
I would like to thank Kris Flynn, Alaan, Darin Jordan, and F1tunnelhull for their informative postings which have helped me a lot in my progression of builds.Comment

Thanks Kris! I am using a high torque steering servo from futaba.
Thanks for the extra tips!Comment

yup, the rtv does stick better than silicone. silicone is really for bonding glass.Comment

I hate to be dense, but do you have a picture of this? You lost me at ..."and add an O-ring"

I have a different set-up I am using, won't leak. just waiting on some parts to come in.Comment

How I wire my Outboards
This is how I set up the wiring on my outboards. No need to glue the esc/motor wires or add sealers, etc. A SHORT set of wires is permanently installed in the transom. The ESC plugs into one side and the motor into the other. SIMPLEAttached FilesMini Cat Racing USA

This seems like the most sensible, convient solution. I've thought about doing this, then my mind gets stuck on the " too many connectors supply too much resistance" merry-go-round. Decisions, decisions....2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap
