    M2-Hydro

Going OLD SCHOOL, BABY!! Wilmer will like this one!

Thought I'd share a little project I've been tinkering on the past couple of weeks.

Our club ran a class a couple of years ago that we called 19T-Spec Hydro, using 19T brushed motors and 2S1P Lipo packs... was a lot of fun and a cheap way to run riggers...

The next year, we switched motors to a small AMMO BL motor and had a blast...

I took that hull, and made some modifications to it, and now have it outfitted to run M2-Hydro for SAW and maybe 2-Lap.

I've collected a variety of motors... they are DIRT CHEAP now that BL has taken over, and I got three of the Checkpoint motors from Tower for 18.95 each... Ray Schrauwen sold me a couple of brand new Hughey motors, and I had a couple others here already. Should have plenty of options.

Things were a little cramped, until I recalled a way of installing contacts that I've seen Jay Turner use, which saved me at least an inch of interior space inside the hull, allowing me to put the RC-Hydros SC-5 4 cell ESC right up in front of the motor. Now everything drops right in.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it now, but if the opportunity comes up to run a SAW or 2-Lap event, I'll be ready!

I'm going to test it out in the meantime, just to see how it works... I'll try to get some video if I do.

I am on my M2 hull as well... I have to say that I don't have the arsenal of motors you have but, there is tie until the next event...
I am going to need better sponsons, that's for sure.

I'm thinking of building a second set of sponsons as well... I have some extra pieces to do it. I have another idea for that as well...

For the Hughey motors, I also have some additional Rotors to play with. Hughey was obviously building brushed motors for boats, because these ones have 3-wrap rotors... 8x3, 9x3, 10x3 and 11x3... Something you don't see too often these days... The Checkpoint motors are 6x1, 7x1, and 8x1, and I have two Revolution V-2 motors... one is a 7x1, the other is an 8x3 that I built using an extra rotor...

Not sure if ANY of this will work, but it's fun to put the package together to try!

Wait until you see what I'm doing as my next side project... Yup... another OLD SCHOOL!! This time, using 6-cells...

        Darin,

I am surprised that your using connectors at the motor, rather than direct soldering... I would think the resistence could be a factor for SAW and Oval trials.

        Later

Well... they are BIG connectors... Also, the ESC had VERY short wires on it that would have required extending them somehow, so I just chose to use the 5.5s... If the ESCs were newer and had longer wire, I might have considered direct soldering... Also, for testing purposes, I need to be able to swap out motors quickly... Maybe once I get things figured out, I'll lose the contacts... I'll have to measure voltages and see if it really makes a difference...

I was also thinking into the future a little... in case I need to utilize a car ESC... the newer ones are setup with the female contacts built in, so this configuration should allow a car ESC to sit down in front of the motor as well...

Been talking with Bill (Wilmer) Oxidean... Might have to give her a try with 1S Lipo as well... Can't even IMAGINE how sick light that would make this!!

I'll remeasure it... I think it's 21 or 22"... I'll get the specs tonight... It's basically a trimmed and modded version of Brian's old N2-Hydro...

I've changed the sponsons, and the tub is VERY narrow... JUST wide enough to fit a Lipo pack...

Might play around and see what I can do with a 1S powered, BL system... just for kicks...

I'm considering building a second set of sponsons of a different design, just to have options...

I also have a second set of tub sides and sponsons all made up, so I might throw together another one, just to have something else completed, and less loose parts laying around the garage!

Grrrrrrrr... I have soooo much junk laying around it's almost a case to call Niece Nash to clean up my garage.... that's the way it goes though.
it is a very narrow tub, that's one of the things I like about it, but you are right, hard to fit cells in... the newer TP cells will not fir w/o some "fixing" of the pack, it has to be a particular brand of Lipos (more tall then wide).
I am not sure what type sponsons I'll be making but I'll use the ones I used in the SAWs a couple of years back as a model... they worked great.
I was thinking in maybe making a glass version of this hull, not sure if it's going to be any lighter though...
