    YACB (Yet Another Catamaran Build)

I just got the laser cut parts today for a 30" catamaran. It is basically a scaled up version of the Shockerman plans that I got from JesseJ. The original plans are for a 26" boat and I scaled them up for a 30" boat.

The parts laser cut by Alex Guzman, who actually did all of the work in scaling them up and laying it all out. (http://a-mmodels.com) Alex did exceptional work and gets my highest recommendation if you are looking to get some parts cut.

The original plans call for building the boat from balsa... but I am biased against balsa in boats at this point, so I had the parts cut from 1/8" light plywood. The plan will be to add some pink foam in the front sponson areas and sheet the boat in 1/32" plywood.

I did a quick test fit of the parts ... and they are perfect.

I am excited. This should be fun. The plan is to use a UL-1 motor and ESC, OSE inline drive hardware, 4S Lipo and race the boat in the spec Offshore class next season.

Can we get some functional details about him? That site doesn't work and nothing comes up on a google search for him that makes sense.

    Thanks!

I like the way he list his models:

        Stage 0 Design in progress
        Stage 1 Design Ready
        Stage 2 Prototype ready
Stage 3 * Ready to sell

I should remember this good one!

The total cost: $40 for the parts, $10 shipping. I originally sent a PDF file for the boat and Alex handled all of the file conversion, (or maybe digitized it into AutoCad), scaled it up and did the cutting.

I sent him plans for a 36" version of the plans that Jesse scaled for me. He gave me a price of $50 for cutting and $20 for shipping.

                  laser cutting

                  Kit looks fantastic.

Here is an idea. He already has the plans in the computer. All he has to do is scale them now, should be easy as the programming is done.

why doesn't someone who is interested in a kit contact him. Mention that someone already purchased a kit and posted about how satisfied they were. To make everything easier, see if he will give a price using the same code for a boat at 16", 30" and 36" as long as it uses the same code, no changes. Mention you are on a forum, and a few people are thinking about this standardized kit. I bet he could sell quite a few!

man, I need a laser cutter....

Hi Jim, Attaching some pictures of my 30" scratch built cat from the same plans
you used. Only altered the transom according to my ideas on prop placement.
It is powered by an UL-1 motor and esc with a X640 propr and 2 x 2S1P 5000 MAH
lipos in series. You are going to have a lot of fun with your cat. I also run mine
in Spec Offshore and have won five of seven races this season in our local club.
Some advice If I may. Look closely at the transom and notice the two aluminum
planing tabs. When you encounter the porpoising which you will, this will be the
best correcting measure. Otherwise it is the perfect cat. I am contacting Alex Guzman as I want to build a 34" with a Feigao 580L but want to laser cut instead
of hand cutting. Hope you have a good time building and running your cat. Regards

                      Norman...
The "Shake n' Bake" cat you built was the inspiration for me to built this cat. I noticed the trim tabs and will be adding those as well.

Thanks. If you need anything just contact me. One of the things I did was do
a lot of strengthening between frames and brushed with Thinned out Fiberglass

I like the kit idea. I have worked up a digitized set of plans for 36" version with a couple added bulkheads - one with motor mounts for a twin and Normans rudder structure... If you get anywhere with the kit idea, I can provide the 36" version in pdf and dxf for the laser cutters. OR if anyone else wants the 36" version let me know - I can fire it away immediately. My plan is to find the time to add it to my website so EVERYONE can download it at their leisure. Someone also had me scale a set to 72" Probably to be built with 1/4" plywood.

I am looking to build me a 36" version in the near future and a kit would ROCK. Next we need to get a mold for the canopy. I don't think the love for the scratch build or kit build will ever die - thank goodness for that!

                            34" cat

Hi Jesse, I just ordered the laser cut cat scaled to 34". I had enough fun with
the 30" but I am going to make the same boat but in 34". It will look the same
but just bigger. I want to power it with an Ammo but do not know which one to
choose the 36-56-1800 KV or the 36-56-2300 KV. I am only going to use 2 x
2S1P-5000 mah in series and only use it for fun. What do you think. Regards

I will build the 36" version from Jesse. I want something bigger and run twins. Not sure what yet but going to play in the cheap side with motors and ESCs and see how it can do. 6S is what I would like to do.

Thanks, Jesse, for helping out with plans!!! You're the bomb!
