    Maiden Run

We have had some warm days and one of our ponds has opened up, This pond is small and not good for racing but we use it for some testing and scale boat running. It was very windy today so I started with the smallest 3/16 propI have, a y 537. I taped the hatch closed and put the boat on the water, Well it floats, thats a good thing. I eased the throttle , she moved forward slowly I did a steering check and and pulled the trigger but the prop cavitated to the extreme So I backed off the throttle and eased back into it,the Crackerbox moved slowly but was gaining some speed , I made 2 small laps and pulled back to shore. It needed more prop. All the temps were cold so I put on a 40X52-3 blade and closed up then back in the water. The wind was getting stronger so i decided to run but carefully as I didn't want to put her on her top if I could avoid it. I slowly pointed her nose down wind and hit the throttle, the prop slipped for about 2 feet then grabbed water and the boat took off across the pond, I ran a few laps and she handled the rough chop better then I thought, It was quick and ran very well for her first run, I did not push it because of the windy conditions and the bottom is nearly flat, these are not rough water boats but I am very pleased with her maiden runs. The Blackjack power package and driveline works well in this boat so this should be fun. I'll get some more testing done if the water stays open and start tuning. I think it all went well. Here is a short video of one of the runs. All of the temps were below 80 degrees at the runs end.

Nice !! So far as you can tell in the video, given the choppy water, it doesn't seem to exhibit the dreaded porpoising that several of us were afraid of with the underhull prop/driveshaft. Good job !!

Thank you Tony. Even in rough water it ran pretty flat and stable, Not at all like the old 1/10s did. It was a little to stable for my taste in a Crackerbox, but I'm sure that will change some as I get to run it harder and get more speed out of it. I think the increased stability of this set up will draw more people to them however. And that is what we hope for.

Todd If you had seen her yesterday on smoother water I think you'd be really hooked. I moved the batteries back a bit and went to an X442 prop that has been detounged and a slight roll increase at the tips and it really came to life, still very stable, after a 3 minute run all my temps were under 90 degres. And it was a blast to drive. I could nail the throttle and hit the corners with quite a bit of speed and she stayed true , The power set up works and these boats are cheap to build. 4-5 of these racing together would be a gas!!

Hydro, I love your build. You gonna sell plans!? :-)

Rich Koll of Legend refuses to do it any way other than balsa and then planked with mahoghany. Can't talk him into just playwood bottom sides and deck. I have no desire to go to all that labor and then race the danged thing...although it would be purty.

Still no FG hull? Still waitin!

Thank you for the comments. Plans are a problem. I'm not a draftsman so I work from demensions and drawings to build the parts I need, I don't think most people would have much success building this way, and would get discouraged quickly. Hoping for some news on the Glass hulls from them. The Legend boat of Riches is fantastic. I plan on building a Mahogany CB but not so sure about racing one after all that work. There is something else in the works as well, stay tuned. I'll post a pic shortly.

                        Hull Builders Kit.

As I said there are other things as far as hulls go in the works, and here is one of them, Yesterday I received a box that contained a 1st one prototype Crackerbox builders Kit, Dick (Flyguy55) and Tyler from Soaring Stuff in New Mexico have gotten together to come up with a racing Crackerbox builders kit, I will be building it to see if any changes need to be made or corrections done. What I received looks great and should be an easy fun build. Here is what I received, Keep an eye out as I may stat a new buld thread as I go.

                                1/6 crackerbox kit is ready.

I have some great news for those who are interested and asking about kits or plans ect. We have built a couple of prototype hulls and the bugs have been worked out and all changes or corrections have been done, Taylor from Soaring Stuff has the kits just about ready to go. They build a really nice racing CB thats afforadable. He is running an intro special for $65.00 plus $10.00 shipping if enough builders are interested. They will be $74.95+shipping after the special intro price. Here is a link.
