    Hell Freezes Over...

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I just spend the afternoon putting new contacts on my old RC-Hydros 4-7-cell and 4-12-cell brushed controllers.... cutting comms, reviving some NiMH cells, and putting together and testing some brushed motors...

I even have 12 new NiMH cells on the way...

What the HELL am I doing!??? I must be out of my mind!!

Nope... Brian isn't messing with any brushes... He's nuts, but he's not CRAZY!!

I'm pretty sure that, by the time this little adventure is over, I'll be BOTH! It just seems so futile, when there is ALL that power available without the hassle...

Of course its futile, but you are being drawn back to the roots of this hobby, where we had to cut commutators and carry our stuff 5 miles to the lake and back--uphill both ways! It's a noble thing to do. (by the way I have a Cobra Comm cutter around here somewhere that you might be able to use. I forgot how to use it!)

Funny, I am dusting off some pletts I have and I still have some RC ESCs...HV and the others and a 207D but also have some pretty new 18 cell GP pack 3700 I was going to break up and build some new packs with some of my other still good cells. I still have several 700 motors and I just figure I might as well throw some volts to them and see what I can do. Sure as hell worth more thrill than selling them at $30 each! The pletts are the 290/30/4 wit torque rings and water cooling. They still just rock on 12 cells but it is a 4T motor and a couple 290/20/4 for 8 cells in a small hydro. Now I want to try them on lipos too because they are amp hogs and hard on cells. Lipos should really make them go.

Go man! I am either going to blow or go but it will be fun.

its really bad to see when people have been sniffing there lithium packs to much and dementia sets in.
they no longer live in the present were there is brushless motors and lipo packs but revert back to the good old days (still not sure whats good about the good old days)
then confusion sets in when they can only find 2 wires on there motor, they try and run a 2p setup and the weight of the nimh sinks the hull half under the water
but its all worth while when they see there boat doing 23 mph and they cant pickup there red hot battries for 30 minutes
people get all worried about over discharging there lipo,s but as you can now see sniffing lithium is a much greater risk to ones self

                Hey Jeff,

Last week I found a stash of 4 or 5 Pletts and Plett parts in my boating tool box (still moving into the house), and the week before I finished up the last 10 Victory ESCs. I was thinking about doing motor/ESC combo packages for people, but I don't know - it might be fun to run them some. Now all I need is a UL-1 hull (mine, not the tower one) and a drive down to Mo to make it worthwhile.

Heck we could meeting in St. Louis. I know of a great lake out front of a hotel we can have fun and put on a show. Sheratons at Westport would be a great lcoation for a race. I know the gm well. Heck I have brishes an endbell new and another rotor for the 20 series so I can run 12 cells on it.

                  Ozzie...you are too funny.

Darin, that is one part of the hobby I miss. It sounds nuts but I enjoy cutting the commutator and replacing brushes. I still have an Integy pro model, that was purchased just prior to the advent of brushless motors.

Now I KNOW I'm nuts... I just checked out Tower Hobbies... they have their Team Checkpoint motors priced at $18.99!! Retail is $110.00... Obviously selling out the stock!

                        Guess what I just ordered...

It is really just the challenge, That is what gets me going every time I have something new to test I get all energized.

Andy I will send you one of my UL-1, if you really want one I do owe you that. Just pay the shipping. It is kind of sad the former is the best it has ever been Now that I am using electric power to form the hulls. But with the Lipo and Brushless the ABS (Styrene) gets work hardened unless it is lined with FG or CF then it a little doubtful . The old power just did not do the same thing to the Styrene.

But you know I found a motor when I was looking at GP web site and it is a 400 size motor that is a 6 pole with 2580 Kv that is a real deal. It was discontinued too! I am going to see what it will do too.
