Winter LSH build,, SS21 hull w/ UL-1 powersystem..

Well here is a SS21 hull I just started on this week.. Some guy's in our club are racing the UL-1's in LSH and I need something to race with them.. This will be setup with UL-1 motor/esc, speedmaster hardware, and 2x 2s 5500/35c G3 lipos... I have been too focused on my bigger hull this last year and need a change! So, here it go's..........

    Parts list and Cost:::
    1. SS21 Hull $279
    2. UL-1 motor/esc and jacket $159
    3. Speedmaster mini-rudder/hydro strut $70
    4. UL-1 turn fin $16
    5. Brass tube, .150 Flexshaft, Coupler, Drive Dog, Thust Bearing, etc. $50
    6. 2x2s 5500/35c Hyperion G3 packs $160
    7. HOK primer and paint supplies $75

First off, I cut the hatch in front and back to fiberglass into the hull.. I wanted a nice EASY hatch to tape down.. I will secure it with a magnet system and then tape as always.. Sure makes for a CLEAN look, with the front hatch glassed into the hull...

Just started filling pin-holes and adding primer to the hatch..

Here are pictures of the work so far... Lots of sanding and filling left to do!! YA

    Gonna look good as usual!

I think I want a Hydro .... I'm getting tried of my son bragging how fast his UL1 is! Got a couple of irons in the fire for this winter already! If it weren't for these irons I'd jump all over Bustitup's Green Hydro!
We did it with a Bang!

I'll be very interested in how this model runs on LSH power. It is a bit bigger than the UL-1, but from what I've seen a larger hull can be an advantage for us Texans. You did the right thing with the hatch, it will be far better than the stock setup.

I'll be watching this one too. That's an nice hull and it will be interesting to see how it does with the UL-1 motor setup and whether that motor has the torque to push that hull...

Thanks bud,, I have just caught the Hydro/Rigger bug in the last few months.. I am excited to see how this baby hill handle and what kinda speed I can get out of the UL-1 setup..

              Jay,

Do you think I should try the UL-1 turn fin?? I have a Tyndall .20 fin for this hull,,, but thought it was better for a P-hydro...

Rich, I 'd be afraid that it might be too short when mounted on the sponson boss. Perhaps if you added a 3/4" extension...

Like Darin, to me the biggest question is - will the UL-1 motor have enough torque to spin a large enough prop. The UL-1 motor likes to spin up, it is easy to overload to an inefficient rpm without generating excessive heat. Heck, I put one in my (defunkt) H&M Streamer stepped mono and repeatedly hit 44-45 mph with an m440! 41 mph was the best I could do with an m445. The big SS21 hull may or may not need more prop than the UL-1 motor can spin, but if so the torquey BJ26 motor should remedy that.

Looks like a nice build. Nice job on the hatch mods. Seems the P Spec power systems are capable of powering some decent sized boats.

The UL1 motor might be OK, I've seen some SS21's running 438 props to great effect. Granted that was with a 1515.1.5D rev-machine, but the small-ish props do seem to work OK with this hull.

If you do not end up using that UL turn fin LMK
