Sprint Cat .40 built this winter

I decided that I want to build a cat this winter. I haven't run one in years but the Sprint looks like a nice size hull that turns great at full throttle.
I am planning to run a Neu motor, either a 1521 1.5d or a 1527 1Y because I own both those motors right now. I am thinking because of the size of the hull the 1527 1Y on 6s may be the way to go just to keep the heat down? I like the way Jay T. has his setup with the motor up front some and the lipo's in the back but in between the rails. I am just curious if the 6s packs are to high to fit under the hatch?

I had that exact setup and my turnigy 2x 6s will JUST fit and they are 1 7/8" tall

and as you can see they will fit down inside the sponsons but there a little hard to get down there ..you have to lift up on the deck and force them in

go with the 1527 ....mad mike paggs swears by it claims that setup is his favorite

Several of us are running this hull on 6S, it is a lot of fun. The 1527/1Y is probably the best choice. I recommend getting the full nitro build with the rails, you'll be thankful when you blow off. Also the "classic" hatch is FAR easier to tape closed as it is just a rectangle with no openings. The swoopier turbine hatches have the big hole in the back you need to plug. A sub hatch could work but that's more effort too.

My FP 6S1P/4500s fit okay under the hatch and between the rails but not much higher. I did put in a flat battery tray for them to rest one.

I had a little trouble with my ESC thermalling at the last race, but I traced that to a timing issue on the ESC. It runs fine now for the full one-mile heat.

Yeah that is me for sure. If I wanted to get the full Nitro layup with rails and the Classic hatch would I have to go right through Remy at Aeromarine? Also do you have any pics of the Classic hatch?

Not a great picture but it shows the three different hatch designs.

Well its not a very exciting looking hatch but I like a good tape down hatch.

The classic isn't too exciting - but you could add a turbine exhaust on the outside, make from aluminum tubing etc.
OTOH if you turn the hatch around it looks like a 1968 Ford.

Hmmm the reversed look isn't bad at all. Do you have to mod the hatch to mount it reversed?

Knpc, your hatch came out great...want to mod another?

No, it will fit backwards without mods. The bend of the hatch and the deck are a little off but nothing some hatch tape can't contend with. Personally I like knpc's hatch a LOT.

I like the look of it reversed as well. The curve is slightly different when put on that way but it doess tape down with minimal modification.

The downside to the way I did mine is it dictates where the motor is mounted. The cockpit is hollowed out for motor clearance. I don't think you could mount the motor as far forward as Jay has his with the cowl reversed, but I'm not sure.

Yes and considering my motor will be up where Jay has his with the ESC on top of it the bubble will need to be much farther forward. I may just get the turbine hatch and mod the back of the turbine to make it more tape friendly. I see that OSE has a Yellow hull with rails in stock BUT it does say Electric layup.

From what Steve told me they are the same hull just with cf on the floor. PM him to find out for sure.
