MRP Bud Light FE Conversion

Well my 10 yr old son asked me last night what I was going to do with that dusty old Bud Light MRP Tunnel with a 3.5 K&B that's been collecting dust in the basement. He's heard the stories and seen the videos I made of my friends and I spending a whole Sat or Sunday racing 3 or 4 of these around my friends pond in Mansfield, PA. Ahhh, the smell of Nitro and beer and no responsibilites brings back fond memories!

We have been running our BlackJack and Fastech all summer with great success. I realized that these boats are running faster than my Bud Light did without the the hassles of nitro!
I got sufin' last night and decided he had a point, so today I ordered the Hyperformance K&B conversion kit. Seeing I already own 2 Proboat bushless set up's I decided to order the Proboat brushless motor and speed controler for OSE. I plan on using my MaxAmp 4200 30C packs to power it.

Does anyone know of a cowling that would work for the outboard? I know MRP used to make one for the electric version but it might be tough to find.

I'll dust off the boat tonight and post some pictures. This should be fun!

most of us don't bother with a cowling. Water won't hurt the motor.

Oh come on! Gotta have a cowling especially if it's going to be a Merc! I didn't realize DPI was still around. Just ordered 2 from the UK. Total with shipping, $41.00. I ordered 2 because I figured you would want one Sailr once you see how good it looks.

Haha. Thanks for thinking about me regarding the cowling. I race, I don't enter scale events so I say again...don't need no cowling! For looks, I agree, but it won't help my speed. ;-)

I agree sailr, won't help the speed. I like your Velocity Cat, might have to get one. I wish there was a club in Rochester, NY we could race them. Does anyone know if there is a club in Western NY? I think there use to be one out of Buffalo but I don't know if they do FE.

Dusting it off

Wow, I forgot how much I like the way this baby looks. After I dusted her off I see I have some cosmetic work to do. First is to get the motor apart and figure out were the lipos will go.

It seems my first challenge is battery placement. If I have room I could put the batteries were the gas tank was. Not sure what that's going to do to the CG. Anyone know were the CG should be? 2/3rds rule?

im out of the buffalo area. There is a couple of guys that fun run in amherst and myself and steakhouse actually run south of buffalo by about 35 minutes. But there isnt any organized racing at all.

battery selection

I found a Rhino 4000mAh 4S2P 25C Lipoly Pack that looks like it will fight right in were the gas tank was. If my calculation are correct, that will handle up to 100 amps discharge. I know it's not idea but it should work, right?

Well I kind of have a question on the same subject. The BJ system is a 45 amp setup so 100 amp draw from the packs seems great, right? The motor or esc should blow first? Sorry I always wondered but felt dumb asking.

got the motor, speed controller and adapter. I took the K&B apart and put a new flex cable and drive lug in(still had lots of spare parts). Mounted the motor. All went together pretty smooth. A little issue with the way the flex adapter alinged with the motor. Had to dremel a new flat spot on the motor shaft. I need loctite so I'll show details when I disasemble. So far looking pretty good. trying to figure out water cooling lines now.
