consider vac forming them...easier and faster. Seam down the middle with FG tape and epoxy. You could still lay up a FG skin if you wanted.

You can make a former in 30 minutes and use your shop vac and home oven.

Oh....and you can use a SS bike spoke that is already threaded :)

The foam is very cool...I guess you just dig the middle out and she will never sink! I wonder about twist, etc.

I already have a nice hotwire setup and tons of foam from my other addiction (RC Sailplanes) and plenty of experience...

I do like the idea of vacuum forming, especially for production, but for now I think i'll stick with vacuum bagging. :)

Thank for the tip on the bike spoke idea!! Sounds perfect to me, as long as I can find some...

vac bagging? so you will lay FG over the foam and bag them? That would be sweet!

Lots of hot wire builds on the web...even a trigger solder gun can work well.

Yes, I am planning on vac bagging the bottom and side surfaces of the sponsons at once with fiberglass and release film for a very smooth surface. For the top of the sponsons, I won't worry about surface quality as much.

On the tub, I also plan on bagging the bottom with release film to again make a smooth surface, and the sides and top will most likely just be glassed without bagging.

            Trigger solder gun? EEehhhhh........

I don't sand after I cut, except to remove angel hairs. Remember, I also scratch build sailplanes; where perfection is key. All I have to do to my wing panels are wipe off the angel hairs with my fingers and clean them with alcohol to prep them for bagging. :)

Here's the basic plan, open for suggestions:

Yep...and the threads are right so when the motor is spinning it is tightening on the prop....use a nut anyway. :)

You can get SS spokes in many sizes and lengths. Or you can get threaded piano wire in 078 for aiplanes, etc.

Watch your vac bag pressure or squuuishhhh!

Sorry...got too excited. Hereis the foam cutter solder gun.

Maybe after I do a trial run and testing...

Buying stainless spokes sounds all peachy, but I would only be able to get one shaft from each spoke... Probably get expensive real quick.

I need to get a die set anyways, so might as well do that and use .078 wire.

One question though, does anybody know the diameter of the center part on the small graupner props?

Might not be possible to keep the total cost under $100...

(electronics are included, my total so far is $35 for motor, esc, and battery)

Darn tough to thread that stuff. Might be better off using KS tubing and just a wheel collar.
