Help me build a new mono!

Folks, I'd like to take advantage of the collective expertise with help on a new boat.

Purpose: Fast sport running and get into some club racing. I want the boat and gear to have the potential to improve without having to start over from step one, so I'd like for the gear selections to allow for that. Initial speed goal is in the upper 40's with good handling characteristics but with the ability to head into the 50's.

Hull: mono in the 31-35 inch range, currently considering a DF 33 or 35 or Rico 31. Has to be stable boat that is easy to set up and a decent performer in rougher waters. Like the idea of a 35". Suggestions? Considerations? What NAMBA classes would this boat work in?

Batteries: 3S or 4S. Is the ability to use 5S reasonable or even needed? Suggestions.

Motor: Feigao or Neu. Maybe 1800 - 2000 kV. Is that reasonable? Suggestion.

ESC: Looking for part throttle reliability. Suggestions.

    Drive: Speedmaster Stinger....3/16 or 1/4?

    Rudder: ?

    Trim tabs: ?

    What else am I missing?

    Thanks for the help!

Nice to see people who know what they want!

First off, good choice in hulls.. I personally race the DF 32" Storm in P-mono, very nice running boat and will handle chop in race water just fine.. I would recommend sticking with the P-class or 4s lipo,,, hulls up to 34" are allowed and the DF 33 or Rico 31 would be great choices.. Running this class keeps some of the cost down and you are more likely to find a club nere you running the same size/class of boats..

When you go to the next class which is Q/ 6s lipo,, the cost of lipos and esc's go's up.. With a P-class boat you could run in P-offshore and P-mono or even P-open if they offer it... All 4s lipo maximum with 34" hull limit..

The DF 32" Storm that I race in P-class,, has a Neu 1521/1.5d with Castle 240 esc,, running 2x 4500/30c 4s packs for 9000mah total... I use a 447/3 prop and get 50mph in race conditions with no heat issues at all...

I would suggest the 3/16 speedmaster stinger and speedmaster .21 mono rudder with speedmaster trim-tabs to finish it off... For motor, I would recommend Neu 1521/1.5d with OSE cooling jacket.. You will be able to go from 45-55mph with this motor with simple prop changes... Also would recommend the Castle 240 esc for 2-6s lipo,, works great and programable though USB adapter.. Then look at the new Hyperion G3 lipos,, 2x 4s packs either 4200/35c or 5500/35c,, they are the best out right now.. IMO...... This will give you a VERY HIGH END COMPETETIVE RACE setup to work with...

This kind of race setup is expensive,, but if you buy the right equip. the first time,, you will have many FUN FUN days at the pond!!

here is a link to my DF 32" on OSE....http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...force+32+storm
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!

That's what I'm hoping to do....spend well to avoid redoing stuff and winding up spending more than was needed.

Thanks for the suggestions. Good call on the hull size...forgot that P class was only to 34". And I had forgotten to list the DF Cyber Storm, it's the other hull I'm considering.

On a motor the likes of the 1521, would it be better to go with a 5mm or 8mm shaft?

I have used both,, the 5mm works fine... If you are moving a heavy hull, go with 8mm.. Not really needed until you get into larger boats with more weight..

I might suggest an MHZ Lizard Extreme for rough water conditions 5 or 6S power with a Feiago 580L motor for a cheaper solution. The ESC for what you stated you desired Schulze 40-160 and it is not cheap. Their is a new version http://www.schulze-elektronik-gmbh.de/index_uk.htm
