Strut, Rudder, trim tabs and placements on 31' Challenger hull

    Hi all

I have recently bought an Aeromanine 31' Challenger hull and got some Head of The River hardware.....

I have looked in the threads but can't find the answer to my questions. Hope you guys can help me......

    1. I am unsure about the location of the strut on the transom. How high should the strut centreline to the lowest part of the transom/hull be? Would 1/2 inch above the lowest part of the transom be ok? That where my Supervee strut location is......

    2. Concerning the rudder how far from the middle of the transom should it be?

    3. How far the trim tabs to the middle of the transom should be?

    4. Should I install the turnfins at the far end of the bottom transom? Does the bottom of the turn fin have to be higher than the lowest part of the transom?

Many thanks for your help. If you have a picture(s) that would be great.

    Cheers

    Hi Jerome

I would mount the strut as low as possible on the transom so that the stuffing tube inside the hull is resting on the bottom of the V.

For a hull that size I would mount the rudder about 1 1/2 inches offset to the right, and with the rudder blade level with the prop or slightly behind.

It depends how wide your trim tabs are, but as a general rule they should be about the middle on each side, and not be closer together than the diameter of your prop.
They should be mounted so that they are level with the hull bottom or slightly above to prevent drag.

Turn fin is usually at the extreme right side of the transom, angled at 90 degrees to the hull so that when banked for a turn the fin is straight up and down.
Mounting bracket must not extend below hull as this will produce drag.

Hope this helps as a starting point.

    Regards

    Graham.
