I want to build a Wild Thing

As the thread title says, I want to build a Wild Thing mono but the link I found to the site to buy the plans is now an RC car site.! What happened there?

I'm really kicking myself as last lear when I found the link I was able to download a copy of the original construction article, but it looks like I deleted it from my hard drive.....arghhhh!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the original article and the plans?

I can help, but the plan is pdf, bigger than the attachment limit here... PM me with an email address if you want.
It is very straightforward to build, just be careful with the weight... I have a 2856 2300KV on it and it is lovely!! Depending on size, you could go higher... mine is 550mm

        Thanks for the info.

Any ideas on the original Wild Thing plans and construction article?

There's a long running thread on the Wildthing over on R/C Groups. Lots of info & I'm pretty sure there's drawings there somewhere. The search button should turn them up for you.

Love the Cobra on that site you posted. Filed that one away for the future. I'm always on the lookout for something a bit "Vintage" & a bit different.
              Cheers.

I'm sure I once saw a thread on a forum somewhere that had a step by step photographic record of a Wild Thing build..... Now if only I could remember where!

                  http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=8008

It is 30"and has a 7XL in there on 4S, NOT reccomended.
I had a 9XL in there but swapped it for a 6XL to go in the rigger and then took the 7XL from the rigger to put in here.

I would prefer a 8 or 9 XL and go with a bigger prop and/or higher cell count.

When the "boat-money jar" is full again I may go this way.

My problem is I like high rpm and low dia/high pitch props. Great for riggers but clearly not for monos.
                  See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

Thanks for the link Simon. From what I remember reading the original construction article the rear two bulkheads were balsa skinned with ply and were used upside down as a former to glue the two halves of the hull bottom together. Oh how I wish I hadn't deleted that original article.

Well, I actually did the transom in 4mm ply and it holds perfectly... ran it again today, max speed 42kph... quite satisfied for now.

BTW, the floodchamber did wonders with my driving :)

Ok, now I've got the plans in dxf format I'm in the process of scaling them down to around 32" and moving the stringers a little wider apart to give some more room.

My next question is regarding motor choice. This boat is going to be to share with my 8 year old son so initially I want a motor that will get it up on the plane but not too crazily fast that he loses interest or destroys it. But I want to be able to change out the motor relatively easily so that as his confidence and ability (as well as mine!!!) increases I can put in something a little quicker. I've searched and found some good advice on high end set ups, but nothing for the "slower driver".

                        Hope you guys can help.

                        Thanks,
                        Gary

What I did with my kids was to limit the throttle at 60% on the Tx settings... easier than changing motor.
