    Who Are Those Guys?

56 men signed the Declaration of Independence. Do you know who they were, what they stood for, and what happened to them?

They were Patriots and Statesmen. Something sadly lacking in today's society of "What will the government give me today?" or "How can we fool the people today?"

They were MEN. They were PATRIOTS. They fought tyranny and taxation. They fought the "elite" who thought they had a better way to spend the money of the working man than the working man himself could think of.

Maybe that's why some of the Dems want the 22nd Amendment removed - they can create a "President for Life" hyphenated-American "King Hussein."

I was alluding to these men in a recent post. I'm glad Bill dug up a great bit of prose regarding them.

If these Patriots could pledge their all to the cause, think how much this Remembrance Day weekend ought we to do our best to eliminate the tyranny and taxation that now plagues our country!!

The Dems ? How about your Republican Family Dynasty! George, George and Jeb Bush in the making. Only Conservative Repubs can't see the danger in this precedent.

Well, to be precise, they fought to stop taxation without representation. Do not think for a minute that they did not have taxes. For a while the states levied taxes and the US government "requested" money from the states. In 1794 the US Government actually sent troops to enforce tax laws against an anti tax uprising over, believe it or not, whiskey taxes!

They fought the "elite" who thought they had a better way to spend the money of the working man than the working man himself could think of.
Uh, Andy, they WERE the elite! Where did you get the idea that they were a group of just "plain folk"?? Most all were very wealthy and were already established. They were unhappy because they had no say in what King George was doing. So they started their own gig!! With them in charge. And that turned out pretty well!!

They were "colonists" - a derogatory term in Europe.

The "elite" were several thousand miles away, living the life of aristrocracy.

It didn't matter how much money they possessed or land they controlled - they were "lesser" people because they weren't royalty or gentry.

Why do you think that only Conservative Republicans (which would eliminate me, since I'm only a Conservative) consider the 22nd Amendment a bad thing? The Dems are the ones trying to get rid of it, and I was against it when it was proposed during the Reagan administration.

                Andy

PS: The first "family dynasty" was John and John Q Adams. John Adams was Federalist. JQ was a Democrat during his presidency (he was Federalist, Democrat, and Whig at various times).

The second "family dynasty" was Teddy and FDR. Both were staunch Democrats, and FDR's wife was very socialist.

Are you upset that Republicans from the same family were elected? Were you equally upset that Democrats from the same family were?

There is nothing about politrics that upsets me... I was born with my own crutches and compass.

                    Then why did you say
Only Conservative Repubs can't see the danger in this precedent
                    ?

Getting rid of the 22nd Amendment is a bad idea. It provides a safety valve that forces the American people to think. Because all peoples are inherently lazy, making them think now and then is a good thing. Unfortunately a few months ago, "thinking" and "dreaming" were interchanged and people didn't think about having to pay the piper down the road.

Who said anything about getting rid of the 22nd... But them again Americans would go for it as long as they had their savior.

I was referring back to your post, #6. Looked like you were espousing the elimination of the two-term limit for President. Or were you just commenting on multiple family members in offices? Like the Adamses, Roosevelts, and Kennedy's, and Bushes being a bad thing?
