I think this quote by Adrian Rogers pretty sums everything up.

"What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

This thread started as why we dont bring manufacturing back to the USA?

"Why not use the money to bring manufacturing back to the USA. Give giant tax cuts or even to subsidize factories/machineshops and companies that actually build a product in the USA. Subsidize moving families to rural areas of the country where these companies can start up cheaply. Its time for America to wake up and become a country of builders again, instead of just consumers."

I enjoy a good debate. Keep up the good work for the left.

As far as I'm concerned whats happened in the past is done. What we do about our future is now. The left can't seem to let go. Somehow they have been forever emotionally hurt by Bush. I don't like this present governments plans for my future.

We all want Change. But all I see is a new guy in the old seat with the same old faces around him, making the decisions for him.

Now I'm literally going up stairs to watch a movie with my wife and some .

        Stimulus Package explaned;

Sometime this year, taxpayers will receive an Economic
        Stimulus Payment.
This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

        Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
        A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

        Q. Where will the government get this money?
        A. From taxpayers.

        Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
        A. No, they are borrowing it from China .
Your children are expected to repay the Chinese.

        Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
        A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a
High-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

        Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
        A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the
US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all
The money will go to China .

If you spend it on gasoline it will go to
Hugo Chavez, the Arabs and Al Queda

If you purchase a computer it will go to
        Taiwan .

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it
will go to Mexico , Honduras , and Guatemala (unless you
        Buy organic).

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea .

If you purchase prescription drugs it will
        Go to India

If you purchase heroin it will go to the
        Taliban in Afghanistan

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria .

And none of it will help the American economy. We
Need to keep that money here in America . You can keep the
Money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a
Baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic
ONLY), tattoos,or BBY Boats since those are the only businesses
        in the USA.

          Steve,

Popcorn is an American product. EAT MORE! Movies are (generally) American products - at least until the Chinese start pirating them. WATCH MORE!

          :D

Northern - I wish Adrian Rogers was still around. I've got quite a few of his sermons on CD. Great guy!

I think in order to recover from this we need to bring our manufacturing back to the US. We need to hold other countries to the same environmental and labor standards we hold our factories to. If you don't follow this then we don't let your product in. It should not be cheaper to cut our trees down, send them over to China to print books and then send them back!!

Give every house hold a million bucks, that will stimulate the economy.

Steve, I feel your passion and agree, but the titanic has already sailed, there is no way your gonna get these MYspace, Facebook, MTV, BET watching, Text messaging generation to do hard work (Girl's 22,795 text messages in a month nothing to celebrate http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/38278)

We've favored convenience and these days and future days to come will have us bearing the consequences. NAFTA/GATT, was the end of the U.S. we export nothing and import everything, that's a serious National Security issue, if I've ever seen one. Importing raw material from our so called enemies to build our military equipment and infrastructure. But as long as they can keep us fighting about who's Democrats and Republican (last time I checked, I was born neither).

I do everything for myself, from networking computers(Which I went to school for Network Engineering to building homes( construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc) Automobile mechanic (from rebuilding transmissions, to brake jobs; with the exception of rebuilding and engine fingers crossed one has never died on me). I started working at 11 years old because my mother didn't want to buy me a pair of sneakers I wanted.

I asked my landlord back in NY if he need help to keep the building clean and he started me with 5 dollars and hour back in 1981. Everyday after school I would sweep the halls and make sure all the trash was off the properties and the garbage was out and on weekends he would take me with him and his 4 sons to his other properties to remodels and do maintenance. From there he and my uncle taught me how to run the boilers in the buildings, I had to make sure the oil level was enough to last the the week or month and if not reorder, sometimes I had to get up 4am to prime to boiler, all this from the age of 11 to 16, those were the days.

They taught me the greatest lesson in life, and that's DO FOR SELF. Sometimes my friends and neighbors look at me like how the hell do you do all that stuff and my answer is simple "When you depend on people, they let you down, if you do for self, you may cut the piece of wood wrong twice or so, but in the end you taught yourself to fish, rather than being given a fish everyday for the rest of your life.

Here's a stimulus plan for you...

Stop taking my money for your pet projects and let me keep it to pay my mortgage, buy a new car, pay for my kid's school of MY CHOOSING, put food on my table, buy Christmas gifts for my family, pay for hobby bits and pieces, maybe take a vacation...

There, I just stimulated the mortgage industry, the car industry, took the burdon of education for my kids off the government, helped the farmers and dairy ranchers and grocery stores, put money into manufacturing and distribution and retail outlets, boosted up manufacturers and importers, and helped out the tourism industry...

Sorry... I know... I know you are right... I didn't help anyone get free condoms or pay for sod research or ... What can you do???

STIMULUS Package??? Give me a break....

Are you kidding?! It will create MORE work for them. You have to accurately track "added value" for every component. It's a nightmare.

I got a better idea - why not limit government to its original purpose: providing a trustworthy structure to define acceptable behavior and punish criminals, and to provide for mutual defense. Get them out of the day care business, the education business, the healthcare business, the anti-poverty business, etc. With all the extra money those who WORK have, there will be plenty to "spend" and it won't take a Ted Kennedy to do it.

                            I didnt think of that

I have a funny story. Last week my local news paper posted the top 20 highest paid town workers. Mostly police and firemen. Total wages were anywhere from 120k -155k. Keep in mind that base pay is between 40-50k, and the rest overtime and local overtime details. We could have easily hired an extra guy or two and saved money. This same thing happens each year
