    my new toy!

I wanted a way to make my own carbon fiber parts. (Aluminum too but that's later). So after much research and contemplating I decided on this little cnc router (mill kind of lol). I ordered a 3040 series in case you were wondering. It's the bigger table (well second from smallest). So I'm totally new to this. So I'm starting from nothing and I have no idea yet what I'm doing. I'm about to head out to home Depot to get some scrap wood to practice on and some fasteners to hold stuff down. I have the right bits already to cut aluminum and carbon so at least I'm one step ahead. If any of you guys have any tips or advice....I'm all ears. I'm trying to download the software at the moment onto my laptop (I'm know I know, they say don't use a laptop, I cut all the sleep functions off).

I'm not going to tell you what I make but I will say it's pretty good And I'm just a parts guy..... but to to be honest about the machine, my buddy paid for most of it. I rebuild rear wheel drive automatic transmissions from time to time (I got pretty good at it because I had a 10 second camaro that used to eat them up and I got tired of paying someone else to rebuild it) and his just went out so I'm doing his for him. He's still coming out good cuz he only has about 750 bux in it.....

I was hoping to have this thing running g yesterday but I don't have the right cable. I drove all over town yesterday and didn't find it, had to order it of course. I may have to try the desk top to run it. Ugh

can recomend small bits. I have seen some that look like just carbide crystals. No tral teeth to speak of. The teelth on the bits can snak on the fiber.
Also, the dust is toxic. Take precautions, and use a vacuum.
YOu can get lots of toys, but you only get 1 body.

Good idea. I have been trying to figure out a way to mount a vacuum hose to it. I wear a respirator when cutting cf....

You could build a box to contain the machine with a plexiglass window. Then attach a vacuum to the box?

I hear ya. Something to consider anyways... I figure with a saw, a drill, and supplies it wouldn't take more than an hour or so. It's not like it needs to be structurally sound. Just slap some pieces together.
