It was a little worse than they originally thought. I had lateral and medial meniscus tears. The lateral was what they call a "bucket handle" tear that was approx. 50% of the meniscus. The "handle" had flipped over into the joint. That's what shut me down mid stride in Huntsville two weeks ago.
They trimmed the medial and repaired the lateral. Recovery time approx. 8 to 10 weeks. I have to keep the leg straight (splint) for three weeks, then start PT.
I just found out that I'm allergic to Percocet. (codeine) Not fun! All the good pain relievers have it in some form. You can't get Darvocet any longer. Waiting to hear from the Doc., I hope he hurries!!

    Other than that I'm fine!
    Thanks for asking.

Sucks! I had a lateral meniscus tear (badly) back in High School. It was so bad they removed 80% of the meniscus. If your in the same type of splint I am thinking of (immobilizer), wait until you need to take a dump with that thing on (ask me how I know)....LOL Sorry, I shouldn't be laughing at your expense.

Hope they get your pain meds squared away. I am sure THAT isn't fun.

      Later,

Yes the "immobilizer". And the dump thing, I'm glad you kicked that door open. lol
Yeah go ahead. Pull your shorts down part way over the "immobilizer". Now stand on one leg and sit down (gently now ) with your other leg straight out in front of you. Yes, I know it hurts. Now relax and have that bowel movement.
It really is kind of funny when it's over. You look like a pretty tall guy too. I'm 6'5 and a long ways from the bowl. I guess it will get easier. lol
And on top of that you have to be very carefull and drink lots of water because the pain meds will cause constipation. Well ya don't want to go there in this condition.

I'm just glad I didn't tear up both knees. ha ha ha

Get ya some dilaudid. You'll crap right there in the bed. You wont even care. They could just spray you off with a pressure washer. That'd be fine too.

Of course you might come on here and tells us what you really think about us. haha

Worse pain of my adult life was the BM after a hernia surgery.

              Hang in there buddy.

Get well Doug, try and enjoy the downtime. I know it all too well, have spent a total of well over 2-1/2 yrs of my life on crutches with all my motocross injuries.

                    Thanks fellas!
Yeah Terry hernias are no picnic either. A cough, sneeze, bm, or laughing is brutal. I remember hugging a pillow for a couple of weeks. And I was a young man then.
Been lucky Kevin, never had any broken bones.

Just saw your post John. LOL

Oh my God " The Almost Walking Wounded" tales......Doug, you have my sympathy, I had knee surgery about 11 years ago and it is not fun. Take those opioids with care, they are powerful mind stuff.
