    IW in Time Out

I've seen it happen to Jim's RC Boat dock and now International Waters. People not treating each other with respect. The board admins get tired of the crap and put everyone in time out. Don't ever want to see that here. So please everyone, keep it civil and treat each other with respect. Even if you don't see eye to eye!!

    Especially you crazy racers.

Perhaps we will have a mild winter on the forums seeing as many are venting so much now. What thread resulted in the "time out"? The Thesis Thread?

If you don't mind me asking.... What are you talking about?

It's like I missed the other 2/3rd of the story. Time out is for kids.

The web site www.intlwaters.com got shut down by the admin for members acting like kids. The web site is mostly used by nitro racers.

LD, Don't know what the straw was that broke the camels back. I saw a few apologies early this morning but they were new threads.

I am on IW forum at least as much as this one and I continue to enjoy the little interaction that I engage in from time to time. I understand that conflict is natural to all human relationships but this is just a hobby for me. . . an enjoyable outlet for some of my leisure hours. I hang out with a growing number of rc boaters at the river in our area.

When I read some of the verbal pi$$$ng contests I occasionally find on these sites I think, "Get a life, guys. . ." . Like the person who shut down the site on IW, when a hobby gets to be a headache it is time to step away and do something elsefor a while. I am glad I have a life outside the hobby and my identity isn't all wrapped up in the number of boats I own or trophies on my shelf etc. Perhaps I don't understand because I am not a serious racer and don't have any bragging rights to defend. But . . . that's just me.

This is not an uncommon practice, and it is not limited to model boating forums either. Once a few bad apples get wound up and start being offensive, often the only method to stop the bad behavior is to either ban the offending parties or shut down the site for a while. While the latter may seem extreme, it does get the message across that the admins are serious about board etiquette. Thus it acts as a more general deterrent than a few isolated bans would.

Usually this happens on forums which are poorly moderated, or at least where the mods don't take care of the problem early enough to get the message across. It is not easy to be a good moderator.....
