    2-Stroke, 100-mpg motor tech

Thought some of you might find this interesting:

Apparently, Bill Gates just invested about 23-million in the company...

    Darin:

    That is interesting!

    Thats an "opposed piston" engine.
Fairbanks-Morris built a 10 cylinder (thats 20 pistons), diesel engine for World War 2 submarines. No valves, no valve train, no cam shaft, no pushrods, no lifters, etc.
But it does require a scavaging air blower or turbo to make it run.

I got to work on a pair of those engines (FM 38D 8 1/8) in a 4000 horsepower tugboat, on the great lakes. The darn things had aluminum main and rod bearings - indeed an unusual engine.

    Its an old idea.
I wonder how they will meet EPA emissions, considering that its a 2 stroke engine?

Why not. This is the definite future . No longer is the nano technology coming. Really those things will make our life more comfortable.
