As a young lad I was dragged to whatever steam display was on.. and dad finally joined us all to a steam preservation society in Northern South Australia.
The Beyer Garrett lived some 100miles away.
A real beasty !
4-8-4 and 4-8-4 all on the one loco.
SAR used these 2up to tow the coal trains from LeighCreek to the PtAugusta power station.. longest train on record 2900metres(1.82miles long )

These are still in service !
And I admit I tracked one down in Africa just to go for a ride long after my father passed....
