    Who's in Charge?

Who's in charge? Insurance companies or the government. If the government doesn't force people to purchase insurance, they'll just raise the rates....

Does anyone else find this a little disconcerting?

If the government DOES force people to buy insurance, the rates will go up. With a single-payer system, there's no competition. One size does not fit all.

That might be the true definition per intent of a single health care system but when commenting about implementing such a program Obama stated clearly that to make it work, health care costs for those already with private health care insurance would end up paying more to get the universal plan up and going. I dont have a link to the comment but I am sure someone will post it. And you can see in the link you posted the intent of the planned massive fee increase from the insurance company was to increase its rates above what normal expected amount should be. They are just planning ahead. Assuming that they wont have enough revenue to cover claims.
