    Very interesting?

While I cannot say I have watched too many state of the union speeches tonight I decided to gander at Obama on the tube as he meandered thru the crowd and one thing stood out very predominantly to me as he passed thru them. As he walked down the isle way with the butt kissers behind him (every president has them just so you dont think I am prejudiced) I noticed he stopped and kissed (8 times) every woman. Shook all the mens hands but kissed the women he encountered? Is this what all presidents do, I dont know as I mentioned before I cant remember watching one honestly. Why does the president have one standard for men and another for women? And he did not kiss Pelosi. He shook her hand.

Is there a double standard for washington? Equal treatment,...... you remember the changes taken to not treat the opposite sex any different? What am I missing?

This link has video from just about every SOTU address for the past couple of decades. I watched a couple of random ones (FF to the end). Kissing is not abnormal. Depends on how many woman and who they are. I did not watch the exit tonight so I cannot comment on how many women he kissed.

    Don't get me started

I like her politics, but if I shook Pelosi's hand I'd have to wash it afterwards.

Mine were he is going to be as good as Clinton as he enters his second term. As a public speaker. He is on track for sure. His message? He might be the type that is a brilliant strategest, in which case his jobs program is a spring board for greater public programs that are broad sweeping for the average American worker. But his zeal for pouncing on health care right out of the starting block says his agenda and the DNC are one. Maybe because I am not at the top of the food chain, its the first hienie you are required to kiss is the structure under your feet. In my mind he would gain momentum fast with departing the lefts agenda and find middle ground.

One thing I did not like in his speech was his comment on terrorism. Its like he took credit for the last ten years of killing the bad guys. He didnt come out and say that directly but he didnt acknowledge the previous adminstrations efforts, Bush/Clinton, on creating the tools now being used to operate around the globe. Maybe I am being petty but I remember being greeted by President Bush at the Bob Hope DFAC at BIAP in 2003. There werent any politicans of any flavor that were in Iraq then. Rumsfield was there. One Congressman but I cannot remember his name. It took guts to show up in a war zone. Especialy at BIAP where 2 months later I watched a surface to air damage a C5A overhead trying to exit the city.

And of course Obama did come out and blame Bush and the Banks for our current financial mess. Didnt say a word about Congress relaxing the restrictions back in 1999 that allowed the Banks to create the ugly loan bundling issue causing the entire mess we are facing today.

But I will give Obama a 7 for his speech using the 10 scale. He's got alot on his plate and maybe be the guy is going to stretch his legs and leave the liberals in the dust. If he embraces whats important to Americas future he will propably be the shoe in 2012.

Oh wait,............thats the year the world comes to an end right?

Thoughtful post, John. It seemed to me that Obama moved a bit to the right in the speech. He still has his priorities but it looked like he was trying to connect with some repubs on security, small business support and jobs creation. Folks tend to think of Obama as a far left liberal, but I think he's been pretty centrist and with his slight shift to the right is probably going to connect with voters a bit better.
