    Nice Aussie Response...

    Stupid question, excellent response!

For those that don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an Australian.

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently...

In a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:!
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
    Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

    FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

    GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radiocast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, the interview was over.

LOL. You just gave me a reason to like the man Dom.
My father taught me to hunt with a rifle and to fish. Now I have no gun but I do love fishing. Learning how to use a gun did not make me a killer (infact I can not kill an animal now). My generation of boys grew up playing Cowboys and Indians and most of us went on to become responsible parents. There are too many "do-gooders" out there that mean well but do not have a clue.

Go to Snopes.com - the story is false.

Legendary anecdote about a general who finds a good comeback when asked about the wisdom of teaching Boy Scouts to shoot.

I was shooting before I was ten. Knowing its power and how to use safely is key. Kids that don't realize get killed when they stumble onto finding a firearm.

I learned to rabbit hunt when I was around 9-10 with a little single shot 410. A few simple intructions from the old men is all my brother and me got. They would put us out front and let the beagle go and she would run them in front of us. My only instruction was to stop at my range of 3 O clock and 12 and then my brother had 12 - 9 if he was on the left. They would just walk behind us drinking their nasty stag beer and eating on limburger cheese....never ride in the cab of a truck after that! No matter how cold I would ride in the truck bed :)

Always wanted a auto gun but I was taught to have one chance...single shot. Best thing they could have taught me. You only need one shell. Could have had so many more rabbit with an auto :)

Then we became humane and built box traps....just yank them out by their feet and knock them in the head. I never liked doing that but I also never bit in to a shot anymore. I think of how much lead I probably swallowed when I was young. My Grandma made the best rabbit pot pie ever! Big thick crust made with lard and man was it good!

That 410 is way over 120 years old and now my 10 year old has it. We go to the bottom field and shoot skeet all the time. Great fun. Old Dad still has it. They get a miss and I take it down...even with a pump action :)

Now I have many guns and enough ammo to hold off a small army for a few days :) Shotguns, rifles and pistols. We do live in the country so it is very normal to me. We are safe and the boys got much more training than me. They have attended Hunter Safety classes....I am too old to have to have it in Missouri but I did the class anyway with my sons.

You do not have to love guns but also do not knock the ones that do. It is just part of my upbringing and am very glad I know how to handle them. For me it is more about hunting and protection.

So there is my Sunday morning view.

Now I want a bow...all my friends hunt with bows. My best friend just got back from Africa on a big bow hunt...took a......kudo, wildabeast, a pig and two ther things I have no idea about. They were condsidered gold by ranking...meaning they were easily trophy so they are getting mounted...spent around $20,000 for his trip of a lifetime. He Is now building his mancave...he also has 3 bear and a bunch of other heads, fish, etc. It is what he loves to do. He never even hunted until he was 25 and now he is 50.

i was taught a long time ago "one shot one kill"
but sometimes people change, these days i dont want to remember what i have killed.
but i am all for teaching children respect for fire arms.
a boy i grew up with was killed by another friend because they thought the gun was unloaded
in some European countries were just about every house has fire arms and they have compulsive service, there is very little fire arm accidents.
to bad they story is not true as it would have been a killer come back

For those that do not know the taste of rabbit, it is a a really great meal, way better than factory raised chicken and beef, and I am not talking about domestic bunnies...the ones with brown fur!
