This is great. Thanks very much for posting it. I "love" the captions that were obviously written by the US media (any of them...they all are capable and do it everyday). If you look close and read that newspaper clip titled "Comforting Embrace", the story would make anyone choke up.
I have a friend that is an Army Ranger and he has spent several years in Afgan. He tells so many great stories about rebuilding schools, helping the locals, etc....NONE of which is EVER published by our media. It has to be bad news or no news at all. It is sickening and a dishonor to those who are doing so many good things in far away lands.
Sorry....off my soap box :)
God bless the USA and all those who protect her. -
Having just recently arrived at the forums, forgive my delay in replying.
The comments about the media are spot on. I spent 3 years in Iraq, and have to tell you upon arriving home, did not even recognize the place the media portrays. Disheartening really.Comment

AS I have said before, we all need to be smart enough to separate the soldier from the mission. So to paraphrase a nice little Christian saying:
Love the soldier, hate the war.
But clearly too many seem to think that questioning the war is disrespecting the troops. Kind if simple minded approach if you ask me.
But let me add that it is also just as biased to assume that our troops do nothing wrong and everything is to be excused simply because we "support" the troops. Take this case for example:
Now this is absolutely an exception rather than the rule, but it is no less heinous and deserves to be both reported on and punished.Last edited by Bill-SOCAL; 08-15-2009, 02:28 PM.Don't get me startedComment

I really do not hold much with the thinking that hating the war disrespects the soldier. No one ever wins a war, therefore there is nothing about war not to hate. However, I am pretty proud of the fact that we live in a country where we are free to speak our mind about not liking this and that. The war, the president, what ever.
It always gives me great cause to chuckle when I hear someone disrespecting the soldiers, when it is the soldiers themselves who insure that the particular individual has the unhampered right to make such criticism.Comment
