My dad and I have been maintaining a 135 Merc Blackmax 2 stroke for 14 years.
We've replaced the impeller about 8 times, and other than spark plugs and wires, there have been no problems! The only thing is the motor mount is starting to rust and Merc doesn't make that mount any more. 4 years ago the outboard mechanic said that the engine had 2 years till the mount would rust through.
I think it's still got another 3.

1985 Johnson 150 v-6 and still screams...never a head off of it and never a carb job. I was a boat mech for 4 years but all i did was maintained it and fogged it every winter.Comment

I bet you that mount is the same as what is used on the current 2.5 optimax engines. Regardless, I would get a used one somewhere. You can find good used mids and clamp brackets for that motor with out any trouble.Comment
