Stay away from packs that say 2P on them.
There is NO way to balance individual cells.

These packs are not for boat use.

Really? Then I shouldn't buy any parallelled packs, including these?

The packs that I am referring to say 4S2P on them - this means that they have 8 cells in the pack with only a 4 cell balance lead.
So how can you balance each cell?

It's an inexpensive way to raise the C rating and get rid of low C cells from stock piles. They sell tons of parallel packs for cars because cars rarely hit the amp spikes we do or continuous amp draw.

Dinogy did not denote that the packs Jay mentioned were built using paralleled cells. There is nothing in the specs I could see.

Anyone can connect packs in parallel in a boat if they want like many do but it's the Cadbury secret inside each pack that can be a scary thought when paralleled.

So much misinformation from people I would expect to know better.

Larry, while there is no way to balance each individual cell of a 4s2p pack, there is no need to, each parallel pair are wired together so can't get out of balance from each other. The pairs in series have balance taps as every other pack does to balance the pack.

Ray, C rate is the ampage as a multiple of the Capacity that it is safe to discharge the pack. Adding a second set of cells in parallel does doubles the ampage you can discharge the pack at, but as you have doubled the capacity too, the C rating remains constant. Only a decrease to the pack's internal resistance, or an increase in the company's willingness to BS will effect the C rating.

Are you saying that I can plug my two 10S packs together to balance the two packs, so they are both the same Voltage.

What happens when one cell starts to go soft??

Why would anyone running boats (much higher Amp draw then cars) even buy a pack made up as 2P

                      A 4S-2P 5000mAp 50C pack is made up with 8 cells of 2500mAp 50C
The 4S-2P pack is cheaper to make and weighs more then a 4S 5000mAp 50C pack.

Just because two cells or packs are charged in parallel does not mean they hold the same charge. One pack or cell could have much different IR.

I've run packs like this and they are soft usually. Turnigy used to sell a 7.6Mah 2S packs 40-80C. I didn't notice they were 2P internally until I received them and then it was too late. They were for Limited classes only so they sort of were O.k. I would not put them in an actual 40C draw because they were barely keeping up with the load I gave them.

                        To each their own.
