Waverider Navaho build (large Apache style build)

    Hi all!

    edit. post #46 updated pics!

It has been some time since my last build so it is time to do something new for next summer.

I have asked so many questions that leads to this build that I propably have annoyed some of you , SORRY!

    But here we go!

I ordered a nice Apache hull from Mart at Waverider Mouldings in UK.

We chatted a while and decided to make it 2 tone gelcoat and extra layer of carbon inside the hull. He also suggested that I look at this 1 rib deck version he called Navaho. I did and liked it so I ordered that version.

So that is being moulded right now, will add pics that Mart took of the moulding process after I ask his permission to use them.

The hull is 57" long, 16" wide. Top is light gray and hull is graphite gray.

I have ordered few items for it.

    MOTORS

    2 of these

    880kv per motor

    ESC´s

    2 of these

    200A per esc(yeah right...)

2 of these nice looking struts

1/4 flex and 3/16" prop shaft (hope it is enough)

    And this rudder

    Ordered also this,

hoping it is enough to cool 2 esc´s (1 intake)

    Also l/r flex, brass,teflon,water lines,linkages... on it´s way also.

Still need few bits that only OSE can deliver, 6mm to 1/4 couplers and so on...

Will post more data when available!

Few pics that Mart sent me.

The top could be painted very shiny metallic silver later on. -but dunno yet how it looks when joined the hull so idk!

Cant wait to get that hull over here!

I have a 57" Apache also , huge boat....... These are both extremely mellow setups . one on 12 cells and the painted version video just on 10 . the 3080 is a 7turn motor but it is setup in the 12turn configuration . I don't mean to hijack your thread but I figured a video would get your mouth watering for your own project.....................

Hey, Peter, no worries I like to see all offshore lookalikes I can!

I have seen your videos earlier and the boats move nice! -allthought the large size makes them look kinda slower then small boats at that speed.

Can you compare the rpm/kw or props what you have on your apache and what I have/need to get for this to get this going?

            -I guesstimate(is that a word?) that 5017/3 or something like that would be a good start? -l & r. -propshop dont have 5019/3 l&r

-Would 5 bladed props work? -I know that high rpm setups they dont but what about this sub 20krpm setup?(6s)

The motor in 12turn trim was about 460 rpm per volt x 12Cells or about 48volts . I guestimate the prop rpm under load about 20,000rpm and I used a prather 260prop , also a octura x460 and speed was at about 45mph

Actualy now that I remember the eagle tree confirmed the 20,000rpm , almost 12 minutes run time with that setup

So a fully charged 6s 25.2V to nominal 3.7 per cell 22.2v and 880kv would put 19-22.000rpm unloaded. so pretty close to that 20krpm you had.

You have 1 motor(yes more powerful) and I have two, so can I use larger props(but I have no idea what prop these motors can turn in water)? -s260 is huge thought! -I guess that if I use similar prop my run times would be longer cause the less Amp draw (2 motors sharing the weight of the hull)

I dont get that much out from prop numbers , but again , a guestimate here: s260 =5519/3. -or not ...

I can only afford one set of props right now and would like to get 3-5 bladed ones (for the looks).

But gladly I´m not in any hurry, it is about 3ft of snow here....

Wow! -lucky that the propshat did not get snapped! -but the props do look nice!

-maybe the 3 bladed works better then

-but the graupner plastic ones would be the wisest route for me to start I think...and when the correct size is found, then get the metal ones.

Now I need 2 motor couplers... -anything cheaper in the market 6mm-->1/4" http://www.hydromarine.de/hm_21245.htm -or I guess I can get these, they do look well made!

-And the boat budget just gained 200€ extra!(sold one of my many rc cars that I never use)

I have two of the same motors on 8s in a 47" vee but on one outdrive.

                      Awesome motors!

This is the first two motor 6s run and wound up getting a few tenths of a mph under 50 on 8s before I had to go away to college after the summer. I think i could get 55 with a steeper gear ration and water cooling.

I would run 10s on the motors if i could but my esc's only go to 8s so i am thinking of getting 4 of the 1400kv motors and putting them inline on 6s for next summer with 4 of the esc's you purchased. Goodluck!

Cool boat you´ve got there Jacked1!

Shame(for me)that you have one outdrive and gearbox... -so I cant think any way of comparing these setups we have. -that was my idea also at first to use 2 motors and gearbox to one drive. -but twins sound so cool!

I could use 7S I think.. -but the esc´s are rated 2-7S and I dont trust that they are really any more then 6s really.

But this is a long project, for next summer if this will plane I´m happy!

(dam this boat is getting expensive, my first 2 (1:1 scale) cars did not cost this much combined..-and I have just started!)

                          Thanks man!
Yea I agree with not pushing those esc's past 6s.
You will deff be able to push it faster than in my vid because everthing was cold when i brought it in without water cooling on 3300mah batts and 100amp esc's.
Looking forward to see the similar setup in two outdrive form!

                            Question for the electric minds...

-The hobbyking t600 motors I have ordered have 4mm male bananas and the wires are so thin that larger connectors should not be that much better... -or am I wrong?

So should I just solder the 4mm females on esc end also, or change all to 5.5?

I will use 5.5 on battery leads.

-Can the wires be shortened? -or are they part of the windings? -thinking of changing everything to 5.5 for simplify

Now to the timing... -I just watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAP8n...ailpage#t=408s

                            I belive that is the same esc that I ordered? -16khz and 30 deg.timing for 1100kv version. -he used 2s and 1100kv, I´ll use 6s and 880kv...

Any ideas what I should use? -most inrunners I have used have lower A draw when the timing is higher so is this also true with this outrunner?
