    h&m supercat

be meaning to put some pics up from day one, better late then never

hardware is from hotr, its some really nice stuff for a good price

-the strut nose cone is 1/4" so i used a small piece of 1/4" brass then i was able to use my 7/32 to run through all the way up to the motor , no slop, i am using .187 flex with no teflon, (strut is 3/16 bearing)

    - for awhile i could not commit to installing the hardware because of the rear of the boat makes offset hardware difficult mount, and i wanted a clean look. so instead of mounting the rudder bracket to the hull which did not leave me much to mount to i filled the center hole where the pushrod would go through with jb weld , flip flopped the rudder piece and drilled a single hole through the jb weld and used the through bolt system for the strut to attach the rudder bracket , done.

    - filled the front of the hull with expanding foam( warning to all that use the foam use the type for windows and doors it does not expand like the others, and only use a little at a time).

    - castle 1518 1800 kv, turnigy 180 esc, 2x 4s 5000 flightmax lipos, prop?

-just need a few items, coupler, servo mount , 10&8 awg wire( cause the lengh of the hull)

where the motor lies and the batts all the way back is 32% cog, this is where i'll start
should not be to much longer and hopefully post my first vid

Here is how another boater did it - sorry the picture isn't more clear. This Supercat held the IMPBA T Hydro SAW record in 2006 at over 70 mph on nickel cells. It also oval raced as a Q boat and handled very well with the dual rudders. It used a Fine Design gear box and a Lehner 2250 or 2280 motor depending on the cell count.

...what do you think about that rudder length in my pics
It is difficult to tell without knowing the weight of the boat, the speeds and the type of running you do. I do know that a longer rudder is almost always better than a rudder that is too short. The drag penalty is less than most folks think - how many have actually tested the same boat on the same day before and after cutting a rudder 1/2"? Answer - almost no one. Even for SAW running, a longer rudder will counteract prop walk so that less rudder trim is needed - and rudder trim has far more drag than an extra 1/2" of rudder length.

There are limits however - that is a wide rudder so if you feel the need for a shorter one cut it off 1/2" below the water inlets. Once you get it too short you'll know because the cat will hook and turn poorly. Then you buy a new rudder and cut it off 1/2" longer than the test rudder.

i had plans of doing twins but just kept it simple ( i have not yet got the patience for fe boats) , i have a 27" wood cat i think i might do twins with 2s power

I'm not personally familiar with the Mega motors, but with that Kv you may be limited in prop choice for this large hull. An m445 is where I'd start, watching for heat. Mid-40s is possible with the right setup.
