Quick lipo question and new to the board

    Question.

If an ESC is rated for 3-7 lipo cells (input voltage 6v-30v) then it is ok to run two 5SP1 lipo packs on it, in series?

Basically, I am the new owner of semi-used vac-u pickle with a ETTI 125 Amp esc and I have two 5SP1. It's running a stock ul-1 motor and I dont know the prop. It will get to the house tomorrow.

Been R/C crawling for a couple years and that takes most of my free time but just had to have a FE boat.

I have learned alot from reading the past 2 weeks on this board. The "tip and info" section of the website is top notch.

No you can't run them in series. That would be 10s1p. You can run them in parallel for 5s2p.

      Ok, so that is 18.5v @ 10,000mah?

I am still learning this high-voltage lingo. I only run one 11.1v lipo's in the crawlin' rigs.

Does that boat setup above sound ok? Other than not knowing the prop. They guy i bought the boat from didn't know the prop specs.

This will help with the wiring... http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/lipo.php

Sorry, I can't help you on the vacu-pickle. Don't have any experience with those.

Welcome to the board. There are many guys here that do run the 'pickle and should be able to help you with the setup.

Thanks. I have been reading that "Tips and Info" page for the past couple of days.

I was just thinking a 5 cell lipo pack was 14.8v total which two in series would be 29.4v (below the esc 30v rating).
But i was wrong, it's 18.5v, so two in series would be 37v something and over volt the esc.

But a but two 5 cell lipos in parallel will be 18.5v @10,000mah. So that is what i'll do.

          Thanks for the clarification.

            Ok, another 5 cell question.

I will be using 5 cell lipo packs which are 18.5v, as stated above.
My charger is rated up to 5 amps charging, ie. 5 cell lipo at 1c charging. But then it says it will only output 14.5 v DC. Whats up with that? Wouldn't a 18.5v lipo charge up to 19-20 volts?

What charger are you using and is it lipo capatible? It almost sounds like a Nimh charger.
If it is, do not use it for charging Lipos!!! It is an EXTREME fire hazard.

Are you sure you can even fit 5S packs in the pickle? What I have seen mostly in the pickle are two 2S 500's in series. Are you going to heat race? If so, then that will be plenty.

Yes it charges lipos. And I am fimilar with lipo technology. I have been using it for over a year for my 11.1v lipos i used in my crawlers. Its a semi cheap Integy I6X705 but it does the job. Just curious about it's 14.5v output voltage for a 5 cell lipo.
I was thinking with me getting into this higher voltage boating stuff, i might need to uprade it sometime.

Not sure. I will get the boat today. Well the guy i bought it off of ran 4 cells in it, and said he used the 5 cells in it too. Dont know if he ran two packs or just one. No racing, just messing around on the lake/ponds around my area.

I just looked at the specs for your charger. It says it can do 1-6 lipos. http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetai...tCode=INTE2053

Maybe the 14.5v is the current battery voltage and not the charge voltage? Not familiar with that charger. Perhaps you can contact their tech support for assistance.

I dont think i would run a ul-1 motor on 5s for very long. That was made to run on 4s

yeah i kinda figured that ul motor might not hold up to 5 cells. my luck.
from ny information above , what would be a good motor and prop combo for this hull? or do yall need more info? i have done some research but this my first boat and font have any reference points for setups.
thanks for the help so far guys

Would it possible for you to get a few 2s packs? Some of the cheaper brands have had decent feedback.

Yeah, I will have to now. The 5 cells will not fit in the hull without some cooling lines/esc moving and still not enough room. The way it is setup I dont think a 5c will fit cause the top boat piece is pretty narrow and shallow up towards the front of the boat. And was just trying one pack, no way for two. They would probable be too heavy anyways.

I am going to start another thread with pictures of the boat. Thanks guys. Guess i have 2 5cell 5000mah liposfor paper weights now.that
