Default Aquacraft UL-1 ESC fix quastion...

My ESC cap went bad and I was only able to run my boat full speed. Little relax on throttle and ESC had to be armed again and again... I had replacement sent from Aquacraft but I would like to fix my old one by soldering new cap or two to power/battery cables. I know it will work becouse I saw thread about how to do it here before, can't find it any more.
Can someone let me know if I can replace my old cap 25v, 680 microns, 105 C temp with this one 25V, 1000 microns and 85 C temperature rating? And will this work properly or it must be the same one?
    Thanks

It should be ok. Try it. Ideally you want one or two with Low ESR ratings and the same or higher temp rating. But 85c is 185f. Try not to exceed 150f.

Looks good. How many runs have you got on it since the fix? What are the temps?

On the above fix I did 5 full runs with good temps of ESC and motor. See pictures. Cap was 137F so I have changed it to 25V, 1500uF and 105C to be the same temp the stock was. It works great but did not do any temp pictures of the new cap set up yet. I will and continue posting.

You can put the first one back on with this one and get a total of 2500uf @25v and that will lower the total ESR.

Default UL-1 temps with new cap fix

Here is few pictures after another run with new cap installed. All works good and temps are fine after full run, full throttle most of time.

I installed 2 of kintecs caps after puffing the stock one and all was good, then she died in the middle of a run.
The motor would only turn a few times and stop. The motor seemed pretty hot so I figured I was looking at a new motor or esc or both.
When I took out the motor I found the bullet on the red motor wire was just held on by the insulation.
I knew they were suspect and I had replacements but hadn't changed them out yet.
So now everything is good again.
Last nights run on a GR 40 52/3 prop with Flightmax 30c 5000mah packs
    Temps were motor 81
    caps 106
    esc 90

    Change out the stock bullets!

Smile One CAP or Two? Would like input from GRIM...

Love the UL-1 but was only able to run it twice and my CAP leaked. I ordered a couple of replacements from Kintec like the ones recommended. Is it more benficial to install one or two replacement CAPS? I don't race but I enjoy running my boat about 3/4 throttle for fun. Once in a while I do throttle her up on the straights for a few seconds. I use my recreationally and woud like to run it for 8 - 10 minutes at a time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Grim your design of theboat has been great! I hope Aquacraft improves the build quality and strengthens the turn fin area!

For 8-10 minutes of run time, you will need some 10,000 mAh LiPos as a minimum. We run 5000mAh packs and run 4 minutes max in order to have a safety margin.

Since the original cap on esc has failed, I would install two of the caps sold by Kintec. The more caps you use the cooler they will operate.

It is interesting why this was not done by people designing ESC's. So simple and only $1.00 more when purchase from electronic store ( unless the purchase was made from DOBY ), never mind the real coast of the extra cap. This makes me wonder.... Is there a disadvantage of installing extra caps???

Smile Thanks for the CAPS more on Run Time

Just a note: I am running 2 Trak Power 4900 MaH 25c packs and I ran around 10 minutes or a little longer. When I charged the packs they still had more than half of their charge available. You are right when stating you need about 10,000 MaH. My packs were cool and I did not find any significant temps from the electronics except the original CAP bulged and had leaked. I found this out when attempting to run a second time and the boat would only go about 20 - 30 feet then cut-out. I would re-arm the ESC but it would do the same over and over again. I am waiting for my CAPS and will try again. Other than that the boat was spectacular out of the box. Would like to see an improvement on the finish from blemishes. EXCELLENT DESIGN!!

I didn't know you could leave it but I clipped mine off as close to the case as possible and then covered the ends with liquid elec tape.

Not at all, she's running great I put the 2 new caps on the wires as close to the case as I could and covered the leads with liquid tape.
And the new bullets for the motor.
I pretty much keep at WOT when running and try to remember to time it so I come in before the lipo shield kicks in.

Hi, im new to the ul-1 also and i was wondering what about running a hydra esc (120 or 240)? Is there an esc motor combo out there that you can just run with no problems. Is the motor that comes with the UL-1 a really good motor or does it have its downfalls?
