8s Rigger Build?

Was thinking of a single motor 8s rigger build using a modded Zippkit Twin 45 hull. Was looking at the TP 40" x 100" motor, 1090 kv. But I was wondering whether I should go up to their 56" x 92" motor, 888 kv? Any thoughts? I'm looking to do 70 mph on a 1 mile course. (Heat race boat.) Total mah would be 5,000. (Two 4s packs in series.) Thanks.

You'll want more kv for 8s than 888. I do like the 56 series motors because they are 6 pole but I don't have experience with them on 8s. I might have a Neu 2217 around 1050kv if you're interested. I'll check when I get home.

What class will the OP be racing? What other boats will he be racing against, gas/nitro/FE? Is he looking for a heat average of 70 mph or a 70 mph top speed?

The JAE riggers are easy to push, no need for a heavy 56 mm motor. Somehow, 4-pole motors win races and set records all the time. A good quality 40x100-ish motor with a Kv around 1100/1200 will work great. A top speed of 70 is easy-peazy for 8S (example, my JAE does upper 70s on 4S on the oval with a little 1415 motor averaging under 120 amps). For that performance he probably won’t need the weight of 5000 mAh either.

I used a 45 JAE with a TP 40X92(4060) 1050kv on 8S with an X452 and ran low 70's. Still a work in progress on the back burner with other priority projects. I would not go to a 56mm motor because of weight. The 40mm has all the power you can handle.

I probably will be racing in open rigger/hydro with gas and big block nitro at the club level. I'm not looking for a serious race boat, but mostly a fun boat that will finish a race if I decide to take it racing.

A little extra weight will not hurt in the open class. Yes, it will require a little more power to push but it will be more likely to finish.
The TP 56 series are a good choice as you can swing a decent size prop which helps with choppy race water.
I have a TP5670 motor in a 8S1P SGX rigger which runs around 72-75mph. I can also run it on 6S swinging gas size props.

However the TP 56 series are big compared to the standard 40mm motors. A lot will depend on how a motor fits in the hull. The JAE twin nitro hulls are pretty compact and may be challenging to fit large diameter motors.

You will need a decent 200A 8S ESC and that may be the hardest challenge.

The 1415 is a Castle motor with a Kv of 2400, more than enough to push the little rigger very fast. The Octura 1450 is a high lift prop and not very suitable for a JAE without detonguing and cupping. I find the H-7 slightly cupped to be a very good fit for this setup, but if I was starting over I would go for one of the newer ABC 17* rake props. They are more efficient and don’t require any modification to run great.

the 1716 prop is only ok if your running a high kv motor of around 2400 on 4s , this will keep heat down. for motors of around 2200 i have found the H7 to be the best for oval. i did have a castle nue 1415-2400 motor in my jae but the pack and esc just got too hot for comfort after 6 fast laps . 2200 is the sweet spot motor i feel.
