    Default UL-1 Upgrade Help

    Hi Guys

I have a couple of UL-1 in stock and I would like to upgrade with Neu motor and ETTI 150 ESC for 4S application, I would love to know what you guys recomend. As I would like to use it as one of our race boats.

I have allready sorted out the sponsons and Turn fin area.

    Almost 50% of the members here would recommend a Neu 1515 1y 2200kv, Hydra120, and 4s2p.

    Try running an x442-x447.

That combo will burn up the Hydra 120. Today I burnt up my Hydra 120 switching from the smaller m440 to larger m445 using same combo. So just guessing I would use ether the Etti or the Hydra 240.

I dont see how a 442 would, Im using 5s on an m447 and my hydro 120 keeps low temps.

Id maybe think about running easy on an x445 and up..

    then yea probably...

Iv had no problems with mine.

Hey detox what neu motor was in your UL-1??

    1515 1y 2200kv...

UL-1 was hauling ace using the m445, but the smaller m440 was esier on HYDRA 120 esc.

Your 1.5y 1500kv motor with 5s lipo power pulls less amps I am sure.

The stock setup using GR L40 x 57/3 clocked 50.2mph. I never GPS'd this setup, but I am sure it was knocking on 60mph. After doing the sponson mod and adding lead weight to outer lefthand sponson UL-1 is more stable crossing wakes.

I think Iv changed my mind as Detox could be right, don't run the x445, maybe run an x442 first.

    Hi All

I have decided that this UL-1 needs my help in order to get it to race trim and perform well and last a couple of seasons.
I have started off by removing stuffing tube and will replace with a thicker and tube that suits .187 flex cable.
I have also cut two holes on each of the sponsons to see what is actually done by the factory and I was not impressed, ( fine for everyday play boat) so I will now add the sponson plates that Darin from this forum has kindly uploaded but I will do it on each side to stiffen the rear of both sponsons because I feel these boats stock are weak in these areas and need attention, I also want to add a piece of ply and resin over the ride pads (sponsons) to try and also stiffen the sponson adding some weight may help with blow overs,,,,,, my question is how much weight should I add ? If any. I’m going to also install Nut inserts behind the engine mounts because from the photos below you will see its only a small piece of ply and in my case the left hand side of the mounts are screwed just on the edge of this small piece of ply.
I also noticed that both sponsons have a piece of lead tucked all the way up the front of the sponsons (pictured below)
I would not recommend this type of work to the everyday hobbyist as it requires a lot of work to repair to the glass and in my case my glass work is ok and I think if you are going to race it and we all know when we race and crash we want minimum or no damage done

Cool dissection of the UL-1, but I think all those extra mods are not needed. The latest updated UL-1 hull from Auquacraft allready has the beefed up turn fin area and lead weights mounted in tips of sponsons.

Try adding weight to lefthand side of hull to counter prop rotation.

Beautiful body work and paint BTW.

This is the latest UL-1 and Im sorry to say the sponsons/Turn fin Area are NOT beefed up at the slightest. Yes they do come with Lead weights tucked all the way up the front but the rest of it is really not what I call race crash ready.

Thanks for all the great info George, I'm glad someone shed light on this hull. For a couple bucks more in parts and labor this really could have been a sound boat. It might have cost us an additional 50.00 or so, but it'd be worth it. I'll run mine til they bust up and just buy another, as said above it's a very FUN RTR.
