    Default Race

here is some pics, from the lastest race, at San Isabel lake in Rye Co. We also had the slowest race in LSH(I THINK) history yesterday, wind picked up, forceing the hydros to slow down, it took approx, 15 min to finish 10 laps on 1/10 course! since the race had already started, the guys just decided to finish it,.

the shovels are RMTBs LSH spec class, the taifun and the viper are allowed because one shovel is still in for repairs and Doozie drives down to race with us, and there is now way we will turn any boat away cause it is not a shovel!!!

here is some more pics!! hmm will only allow one pic rest say "fatal error"

This will be my first real hydro build as far as component placement is concerned, the Taifuin was easy, just drop in the tube in the preformed slot and the motor in its slot. I just measured its cog rtr and its about 3" aft of the sponsons?

The Taifun is 3" aft of sponsons? your shovel should be 1" behind sponsons. dont follow my were my batteries are mounted as I am still working on the CG after its repair.

If you think the cog is strange, take a peek at the shaft angle I wonder if this setup would work on the shovel.

hmm I dont know, Rod put a straight shaft in his shovel before it ever had a paint job, that boat had all kinds of issues, transom would hop all over the place, it also spent most of its time under water, any small ripple and the boat went under.

looks like you have been buzy with the Taifun! now your gonna be slow like the rest of us, with that pretty paint job!

str8 shafts work fine, but you have no adjustment. all changes are made by making the shaft and strut longer or shorter, once you have set the stuffing box angle for the shaft you are pretty much stuck with that angle unless you what to take it out and start over several times until you get the perfect angle and shaft length . With the strut set ups we have today there is no real reason to use str8s unless your a glutten for punishment and like to tinker with out dated systems that are proven less effective. Well built Wire drives have nearly 80% less rotating mass this results in measureable increased prop rpm. A stainless solid shaft will also be 5-7 times heavier then a wire drive and 2-3 times heavier then a .098 flex cable. It would be easier, cost effective and higher performing to use an adjustable strut system. I think that Graupner design you are comparing to is nearly 20 years old any way, FE boats have come along way since then, I think if Graupner released that boat today it would have and adjustable stut and shaft on on it. What bennifit are you looking for with the use of a solid , str8 shaft?
