Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
Not trying to argue with you Rich but if nothing else this would infact work safely. The only draw back would be clearance around your motor as the no-hub band is thick. We use these every day for plumbing. I trust them inside walls in houses so I imagine under what pressure your cooling lines have this would handle. You can get them anywhere Ace, lowes, HD. If it gets you on the water at least for now its worth it. However your ponds dont freeze so time is on your side.
I belive everything you say about the toughness and durability of these rubber jacket... Not discrediting it,, just personally want something else...
The water jacket is not keeping me off the water,, i just want to see the temps go down,, they are at 130-135 right now,, which is fine.. But I like things to be as cool as I can get them!
Your right on the ponds not freezing,, but its been raining for a week now!! I dont like running in the rain,, LOL
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
You just gave me a good idea...going to run the motor without the jacket on for 3 min or so and check temps. Then put it on for the second run (next day so motor is at room temp). I wonder how much good this homemade jacket will do. Thanks for the inspiration tx! Going to try and finish the boat up this weekend...batteries should be here early next week. Will let you guys know what I find!

It is four packs of 5cell packs two sets of 5S in series, then the two sets of ten cells in paralle.
I do not have that many 5 cell packs. I use 4 sets of 4S1P and two sets of 2S1P to make the packs I run in the 10S2P boats or T class boats.
I am thinking about designing a cooler that will work for the finned motors but they are gona be large.
Randy I made this one for mine but I had to mill the fins off

Guys, is this picture of a 2230 motor like the ones you have? We are getting closer to making one but want to be sure it is what is needed. This is the motor we are working with.
Thanks
Dave
Dave the old styles looked like this

Thanks Peter, so the old style has the wire ties and the newer ones have the fins all the way back to where the wire ties were it seems. Does that sound correct? The motor I have is dated 5/09. Thanks
Dave
HRC,
Mine is same as Peters... No cooling in front.. Our motors have fan in the rear...
I am sure the diameter is the same,, what is the total length of fins on your 2230?
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
Yes the diameter is the same on both

Thanks guys.
txboatpilot, the fins on my motor measure 3.328 long. From the looks of the photo yours and Peters is shorter, hard to tell. Can you guys do a measurement and let me know please?
Looking like two size jackets are required, old and new style.
Ok, here is a jacket for the new style motor. Flow rate and leak test are great.
Problem: Support for rear of motor. No room for strap style support at rear.
The jacket may work, not sure untill more testing is done.
Dave
Nice job Dave.

Very nuce job! I have been making plates to support the rear of my motors and glassing them into the hulls,, then drill holes in each side and run a zip tie over the top to hold the rear of the motor, nice and solid...
Will this jacket clear the finned motors? If so, I would love to try one out!
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
Thanks Steven, when time permits I will try some of the things we talked about on the phone a couple days ago about supporting the rear.
Txboatpilot: Thanks and yes this is for the finned 2230 motor, the one in post # 37 ( new style). We ( Steven at OSE and I ) have spent a lot of time and testing to date. The jacket is at the end of motor due to the fins on the new style. It may fit the old style like you have with no problems, not sure.
Dave
I think the old style have 28 fins and the new style have 30

Thanks Peter, I just checked the fins on the motor I have and there are 31. If the old style only has 28 there is a good chance this jacket will have room for rear mount support.
txboatpilot, can you check your motor fin count and give picture? If so will send it to try out.
Thanks
Dave
Dave on the two pictures supplied in this thread you can clearly count them , hope this helps

Ok, I need two water jackets for the Neu 2230. Who is going to make them, How much, and how soon can I have them?
Thanks
Im amazed, with the amount of people wanting to build big offshore type cats these days, i would have thought they would be a thing in stock to go with the motors that are for sale. Hmmm
I have sent a jacket out for testing for temp. with and with out the jacket amp draw etc.
Hopefully it will not be much longer for the results.
Dave
Lets say, in theory, I could care less if they had been tested, How quick could I get two and how much are we talking?
Thanks

I know it has been a while for this jacket. We have a lot of things going on.
We do not want to put this jacket out untill it is proven under the most demanding conditions.
The last thing we want is for something to happen that would cause dammage to a boat
Thanks
Dave
Not to worry couldn't be more damage than me running without one, well maybe.
Sorry for the long delay,,, I have been VERY busy at work.. Here is a picture of the water jacket that HRC made for my 2230.. Fits PERFECT!! I have the Finned version of the 2230.. I will test it this weekend to see what effect it has on temp's....
This motor is out of my Aeromarine Avenger Pro 44" Cat,, running 10s2p G3 lipos it will do a consistant 65-68mph in heat race trim... Motor was coming in at 130-135 after 6-7laps or a full race..
I think this one is going to be a WINNER!! Thanks HRC!
Nothing like keeping you lipos warm and your prop wet!!
If it lowers the temps 1 degree I will take a pair.
One of our many 92" cats is needing to be complete.
txboatpilot, you are very welcome. Any temp. readings yet?
Txboatpilot, just curious why your making the sleeve so long. The stator inside the can is only 3" long. The cooling jacket doesn't need to be any longer than that to work efficiently. Look at the ones Peter makes. There 3" long and the motor is 4 5/8 long. Pleanty of room on either side of the jacket for clamps or what not. Your jackets do look nice.
