Twin motor build questions

I am working on building out a twin motored boat, and would like to use the Traxxas Villain IV/Blast outdrives for it, would I be able to send flex shafts out of the hull directly to it or do I have to use the U-Joints that they use on the stock boats? I am not too familiar with flex shafts so I have no clue if that is even remotely viable.

If you plan on steering the boat with the outdrives, then the flex cables will likely not articulate enough and bind. I've seen flex cables run directly to "dummy" outboards with a rudder in place for steering.
