Default 32" Wild Thing mono 70+ mph

Hi rc boat friends, last year I made a 32" Wild Thing.

I run a Rocket 4074 2000kV motor, Flycolor 150A esc and 6S lipo. My goal was to reach 100km/h or 62mph. But this boat absolutely screams and I got 71mph already.

Im still trying different setups and I show it in my videos. Here's a running video of the 71mph run:

Mike did a killer job on the framing inside these. Keeps everything straight as an arrow during the build.

Actually I modified the Wild Thing design to adapt better to an FE setup. I changed the bulkheads design as well. Here's some pictures:

In the video at the top, the last few seconds you can see the motor and it looks like you opened it up or tried. I tried to open a 3680 GoolRC motor without heating the loctite on the screws and I stripped the head off one. I just wanted to see it's construction. Why, if so, did you open yours up, modified?

You spotted that right Ray. Just before a meeting I felt the motor did not turn freely. I had to open it up to see the cause. The original fasteners were Torx 5 size. I don't have a Torx 5 wrench, so I drilled these fasteners to open the motor.
I found the stator had 2 M3 washers sticking to its magnets. Once removed, the issue was solved. I just had to drill and tap some new holes for new fasteners to fix the motor flange.

These Rocket motors have a very open end bell. That is a disadvantage, because metal parts could easily access the motor there and stick to the magnets.

better heat dissipation though. wonder if you could attach some kind of screen material or something over the end bell?

Very nice boat. It's great when expectations are realized and then some ! I bet window screen would be a good filter for metal parts, especially the non metalic version found at most glass shops?

Thanks Paul. Yes, window screen might work. I think I will just take good care that I don't have any metal bits laying in my hull

LOL, I had lost a 4-40 nut and could not find it .... so after a run at the lake I brought the mono home and in the process of removing the batteries , i found the nut ... stuck up under the motor ..

I broke my speed record today, reaching 116km/h.

I also tried my new rudder setup with great success. Cornering improved by using a longer rudder bracket and a wider rudder blade.

Here's today's video of the testing and tuning:

dang it didnt take much to make it stick on the water better. curious as to where was the stinger angle?

You're right, the rudder position behind the prop and the trim tabs a hair down, did the trick.
The stinger is horizontal / zero degrees.

I got a new speed record this week. I also ran short laps and I put it in the video below:

that is astounding the motor wasnt hot on a 45mm 1.9 prop. but obviously it wasnt spooling up as much either. is the esc hot?

a buddy at the club with very high end gear (brings an enclosed trailer full of boats) was showing me all his spare motors for comparison. he had rockets, TP, leopard, NEU. You can see a huge difference in TP motor windings over rocket motors. The TP has double the size wire and you can hardly turn them over by hand. Id be very curious to see if you'd do better with one of the TP CM series motors with higher KV on 6s. such as this 3200kv 4050 (40mm x 83mm)https://www.tppowerusa.com/index.php...product_id=448

its has double the peak amps as rocket 4070 so should spin the same props but at insanely high RPM (for 10 seconds).

or this one lower KV but 7500w peak https://www.tppowerusa.com/index.php...product_id=527

I really like the TP motors and I plan to try one in the Wild Thing. The one you linked is really for SAW running and extremely high rpm. It is possible, but it is not for me, as I also like running ovals.

I'm looking for a 2200-2350kV setup on 6S. That could possibly get me to 80mph or 132km/h. But I might need an esc upgrade as well.
I currently run a $56 motor with $53 esc. Price performance wise, you cannot beat that!

This week I beat my speed record and got to 77mph (123km/h).

Running 6S on 2000kV. Holding up great, ran at least 20 packs with that setup in this boat.

Unfortunately, I crashed and totaled this boat last week

That's the risk when pushing your boat to the limit..

I made a setup compilation video. It covers speed running setups, as well as oval running setups. It might be helpful if you're looking for a setup on a 32" mono:
