Looks great, Larry. I'm really digging the aluminum plate. I do the same. That fin takes a lot of load. Also like the weights you used to glue the bottom down.

At first when I looked at this I thought you were gluing the front part of the bottom skin at the same time but I figure you did that so you knew it was in the right place.

How to bend plywood to make it easier to clamp and glue.

Heat it with a hobby heat shrink gun, add clamps so it will bend the way you want to. More heat.

Then let cool all the way down to room tempter, so the glue inside the layers can return to a solid.

You have got to watch, if it is not drooping enough,
You have to add more weight, or more heat.
Watch out for too much heat, the plywood will start to turn brown. (that means that you need more weight)
If you end up with a few brown spots, make sure that you scuff them up with a coarse sandpaper. (the epoxy will stick much better)

Sounds good. I typically use steam/boiling water to bend instead of dry heat.

    Age old methods

I've always heard that soaking in mixture of water and ammonia will help soften things up enough to bend.

Bending with water or steam works very well, as long as you are going to screw it into place right away.
Or put it into a jig until it dries out to be able to glue it together.

    Ray

I put one side along the table, with weights along an edge about 1/2" into the sponson decking.
Then I added some clamps for weight along the outer edge to help bend the wood.
Then I went at it with the heat gun.

After that one cooled, I did the other one for the other side.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I don't like bending wood with hot water when it's a large skin like this. Too easy to mess up the top layer finish.

    RAY

I remember about 10 years ago when I was building one of my N2 Wip's.
I made one side, as I was in the middle of the other side, I realized that I was making two right sides.
Had to cut a new piece, Although I now had a right side for my next one.
Please be careful, and don't do this.

Looking good sir! Servo is in weird but I get it. I'm finally getting the turn fin sorted out. I had to buy new threaded rod since the kind that is only threaded on each end just would not work.

Do you use wood screws to put in the servo or nuts and bolts?
