I don't think the forefathers would have ever believed that the government would be so corrupt that the checks and balances would not be in effect at all. Until we remove campaign financing, we will always have politicians that will owe someone a favor.

The Founding Fathers also envisioned a Senate with members appointed by the States (the idea was to eliminate the need for campaigns and funding), but the 17th Ammendment ended that practice.
Now we have 535 "Representatives" with nothong more than re-election (and "How can we fool them today?") on their minds, and to he!! with the "Little People".
