Here's an overall shot of how it looks. It has a wood retaining tab in the front, and two magnets a third of the way back. It physically can't come off now short of breaking something...

I made a video of how to setup the cowl screw and nut. It shows the complete attachment design for my custom stealth cowl. Here's a link to the video...

I also picked up an ABC H-7 prop and prepped it. I've watched a lot of great reviews about this prop on the JAE 33FE. Next run I'll test it on laps...

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for the detailed write up - really helpful. Also enjoy your videos, you will be happy to hear i am a subscriber!

One thing i wanted to ask, how much rudder angle does your setup allow/need? I have been putting my rudder together with basically the same set up as yours (bellows inside the boat) but find at the extremes of travel the pushrod binds with the side of the transom. Is this an issue with your setup?

    Thanks!

    Thank you very much...

You need very little rudder travel on a Zippkits rigger. I only have a 1/4" travel each way, and I'm running at 65% dual rates running laps in the seventies...

I tested an ABC H-7 prop on my JAE 33FE. I think I've found the sweet spot with this setup...

I love my H-7 on the Jae. I had Mark Sholund pitch and cup one for me and it runs great with it. After 30 years doing the boats I am done working on my own props and leave it to the experts.

Nice run, she's fast and pretty.. Have you tried a SAW run without the turn fin on? You might pick up some significant speed

Just the turn fin, from .7 degrees positive to 1.0 degree positive

Have not tried that. Actually a bit concerned about how it would handle

It wouldn't turn well at all compared to with the fin on, but for a straight SAW run that only requires very minimal turning it will be fine. The lake your running in looks big enough so there wont be any issues. Maybe try one easy run with the fin off and see how it goes.. I haven't done a real SAW run with my JAE until I run it a larger place than my local pond, but even there with the fin on I got 74mph out of it with a quick burst of throttle. Mine is running a pretty basic setup, a 4082 2200KV motor with a Seaking 180 on a SMC 5000mah 6s pack. Prop is a balanced and sharpened ABC H7. At some point in the next month I'll get it out to a larger lake and get a SAW run in without the turn fin on, I expect to see at least a 10mph gain if not more

When you say 0.7 to 1.0 deg Positive, does that mean you moved the bottom of the turn fin towards the back of the hull, decreasing lift?

I moved the bottom of the turn fin towards the front, increasing lift.

I look at how it affects the ride angle. Any adjustment that lifts the front of the boat is a positive adjustment.

So on a strut or prop shaft angle, moving the bottom of the strut back is a positive adjustment, it lifts the front of the boat.

Maybe others see it different but that makes sense to me...

You can take advantage of this effect to raise or lower the nose with just a fin adjustment. Kick the bottom forward and the nose comes up. Kicked back the boat gets tight to the water. It is very, very sensitive. Best case to worst case is probably at least 20 mph... Really.

CG is not critical, and has the most influence on the turns, as long as you are in the ballpark (and it's a big park), it has little effect on running attitude.

Keep in mind that props will change the ride attitude, so a fin adjustment may be required after a prop change.
Just try to run the boat as loose as you can, without it climbing up on the fin, or doing anything else funny.

Most riggers will not blow over unless something is wonky.

Also, there should never be a reason to service or change the shaft tube. It is well protected, and should never wear out. Removable skis serve only to frustrate...

    The boat looks great!
Joe, I never forgot this info you shared. And I've been making decent gains in speed with my JAE 33FE lately. I have a question for you.

How much positive angle(bottom tilted forward) in degrees have you run the turn fin? I'm set at .7 degrees positive, set with a digital pitch gage, and it's running solid, feels loose but staying down nicely.

My strut is down on the bottom ski and level. I'm running a Neu 1515 2050kv motor on 6s with a Flycolor 150 amp esc. My best run is with an ABC 1819-22-45 prop.

Do I loosen it up more with the turn fin? Or do I just need more power?

Here's the video of my best run so far...

I put a emeter2 in my little 27" mono. its a 150 flycolor with a 3670 rocket RC. Im hitting LVC to my suprise on a X640. and its pulling like 2000w. Which is also jaw dropping to me because temps are under 100f after a long basher run. Essentially you have to run LVC at 3.1v - 3.0v because of voltage drop at the ESC. The battery isnt actually dropping that low, the ESC just thinks it is.

point being with data logging you learn a ton about whats going on and you will see a batteries performance real quick.

It's 1" behind the back of the turn fin.

I did break a hundred with this boat, just never linked the video here. I ran 98mph with the Nue motor on a 1921 prop.

Then put a TP 4050 2310kv motor in it and ran 101mph. Here's the YouTube link to that run...
