    Default Electric conversion on a Miss Vegas Duece...Motor placement?

    I had an old hydro hull, I believe its the Miss Vegas, and wanted to FE with it but Im not sure if my motor placement is gonna work. The stuffing tube comes into the
    boat really low (almost flat) and the can hits before I can get it lined up with the flex. Ive just started running a flex shaft on my old Prather Deep V conversion as I always used a solid shaft on it so the cable went straight in. On this hydro I've had to move the motor so far forward to get what I would call an acceptable angle into the tube I have 2 1/4" of flex shaft between the coupler and the stuffing tube. I don't know...it just feels to me that with the rpm's these things turn I'm gonna wind up (literally) with a big knot spinning at the speed of sound and send this project to the bottom.
    Does that sound like too much exposed flex to anyone that's experienced with this type of drive?

    You will need some mechanical support of the flex shaft but you can add that on the inside.

    Cut and drill out old stuffing tube, Pace motor and batteries in hull to establish COG. Usually 1" behind sponson transom. May have to cut in a new stuffing tube hole. Clean all area's with acetone. Tack in motor mount and stuffing tube with CA when lined up STRAIGHT. Fiber glass in. Brace stuffing tube 1" from the end. Gap between stuffing tube and coupler is 1/2" max.

    The flex cable will absolutely ball up if not supported. A gap of no more than 1/2? is recommended. Remove the old stuffing tube by heating it with a soldering iron until the glue softens, then pull it out with pliers. Don’t use a saw or knife if you don’t have to.

    Bobby,

    The MV (or the later MV Deuce) can be a fun project. Know that the hull was designed for a small nitro motor ( .21 in the MV and .19 in the MVD) and speeds in the high forties. Take your time & do it right. Best to do the cowl mod to make taping work way better to keep the H2O out. Reinforce where you can - the hull is thin and will end up with weak spots that'll cause trouble and be a pain to retro-fix.
