I run the 5680 650KV on 10s in my insane cat and mono. If you want to run a gas size prop then you need to lower your KV. Spinning the snot out of a little prop doesn't work for gas size boats in heat racing. If your running in glass by yourself then that's different. I would recommend the 970kv for 8s just so you can run a bigger prop.

I thing the first question should be, what do want to do with the boat? Race Oval, Run oval or Straight Line Speed?

I have always been a fan of Lower KV and Bigger Props. About 24-25k RPM and 1/4" props. So may choices of props. 2 of my big boats are running Dasboata 7414/3 pitched to 1.5. prop. One is on my R42 with a Lehner 3060 about 650 kv. 10s. 72mph. For racing you may wan to slow it down a bit though. How agile is that throttle finger?
If you want to race other gas hydros then I suggest a 650KV on 10s. I have gone to gas and have my setup for sale if your interested. It's a TP 5860 650kv, flier 400 esc, motor mount for 5" rails and a collet for the motor.
I would second Mark's recommendation of the lower KV motor on 10S.

Go with the TP, you can run larger gas size props for half the price.
If you wanted a time trials or SAW type boat I would push you towards the LMT.
The TP is going to have more torque in a smaller volume and lower weight.
Additionally you will not need a huge ESC to power the TP at reasonable speeds.
While a 3040 size LMT can run equal speeds, you will need smaller props to do so and as Mark pointed out in rough race water small props are a disadvantage.
A 5680 is $250 with a cooing sleeve. An LMT 3040 with cooling jacket is double that cost once you include shipping from Germany.

Correction a 5680 is $250. :) I will take $450. for my setup. I also make the batterie's for this kind of setup. I can make you 5s 10,000 or 12,000mah packs using my 65c, 70c or 80c formula.

10,000 65c mah and 1160g There may be a set of these available because a customer ordered them but now thinks they wont fit his hull. I should get my order this week or next and will let you know if they become available.
I'm the customer that ordered these. I will not use them and will sell them to you for what I paid. Let me know what you think. I might be able to get Mark to ship them to you.

I got these packs in. They measure 2" x 3 1/4 x 6 1/2 These are made from my 5000 mah 65c formula and then paralleled up at the factory so your not running four packs but two to get 10s 10,000mah. These are very good packs for anyone running gas size boats.
Removing bad cells can be done but it's not easy. I don't do this myself.
