Default First time build, need help with correct motor size (kv)

I am really new to RC boats and I'm in the process of building a 46" Mono Hull from scratch. I'm to the point where I need to buy a motor and the guts for fitment before I continue much further with the boat. Can anyone enlighten me on what size motor would be best for my application? I did a calculator on another sight and it said I need to be around 3600KV. Does that sound correct?

That would be wrong. you are going to need 10s to push a boat that big. The preferred RPM total is about 28K . If you do the math on 10s figs about 38 volts under load. so 750kv per volt would be great. Also need at least a 50-56mm can. 10k Mah of Batts and a nice 300 amp controller. 457 to 460 prop. Big boats big dollars.

Where did the OP get the plans for his model? The hill design looks....different from the photos posted. Is this a proven successful hull design? Howard’s recommendations are spot on BTW. The deep vee design means a surface drive would be preferable, either a strut assembly or a stinger.

Thanks guys! Any help is really appreciated. I found the plans online. With this being my first boat build, I'm looking to gain experience from this more than anything. Money and time is not an issue wih this build.

Is there any motor brand of preference?? What do you prefer?

If you’re not going to race the boat then a Leopard, SSS or TP motor should work. I find the TPs to be slightly higher quality, but any should work for you. Kv values between 700 and 850 will work.
