    Hey Mic,

I'll take those two Leopard 4082, er... ah... I mean those two relabeled (HobbyStar) Leopard 4082 motors.

"made by Surpass hobby" I seriously doubt that.

Maybe contracted by surpass with the factory in China, that makes 90% of all our motors, to be a 4082 with the HobbyStar name on it. Surpass looks to me to be a dealer, not a manufacturer. Inside the motor I'll bet ya that it looks just like a leopard, except that it will have *!***!***!***!**ty wire, and not much of it. And the bearings will be very rough and noisy, ie cheep! And just maybe, the parts won't be quite as long as the Leopard parts are, making it actually a smaller motor, no matter what the motor designation number sez it is. The Leopard is 50mm long internally.

BTW when looking at a 4050 TP motor, the numbers mean 40mm can and a 50mm rotor. And for Leopards and all it's clones, 4082 means that's how wide and long the can is, and tells you noting about the internals.

When I get the HobbyStars, I'll show you the insides, and I have a customers 4082 Leopard torn down right now, so we can compare and see if they look like twins.

I agree with all the above. It's the rotor that's a little less than a Leopard. You'll want to re-wrap it. My 3670-2280kv's rotor has little kevlar on it and it's a little loose and the screws holding the ends on have retaining compound or some bitchin' thread lock - I stripped a screw head taking it apart.

Name of the company is Shenzhen Surpass Tech Co., LTD. FYI I race for rcjuice.com who is the sole US distributor for Hobbystar products. You should be moderately surprised on the performance out of these motors. I've had great success with them.

Oh ok Tommy. I looked up surpass hobby and it looks like a store. I didn't realize that you were talking about the Shenzhen factory, I would have agreed with you had you said Shenzhen.

But don't they make most of the motors that we use, regardless of the name that's on them. And from the looks of the new X2 series Leopards, I kinda think that Shenzhen is making those too now. They may have been making them all along. I also see that the Leopard company seems to be falling apart. Their website is a mess and has almost no motors available.

Like the GOOLRC motors, the green ones. I have rewound a couple 4092s for a friend. Everything inside LOOKs just like a Leopard, except for wire quality and amount, and bearings.

    Tom,
Unfortunately the Amp Daddy Leopards got lost in shipping. The postal service said they left the package in our locker at our office and we never received.

I am not very familiar with the Sonic Wake. You can adapt a 40mm motor in about anything if you are willing to fabricate things. If it uses a 36mm motor I would go with a 36X84mm TP3650. I have one and it seems very close to a 4082. Both TP's have 50mm rotor. I never measured the Hobbystar 4082 but maybe Don will chime in as he is rewinding the pair from me I am sure.

    uplift,

The Hobbystar 4082 has 45mm long rotor and stator. And like Mic sez, I think it would be better and easier for you, to go with a TP 3650, as it has 50mm long internals and GOOD wire, more wire, and better stator steel.

Most of the "offbrand" 3674 motors (like your Dynamite) that I have taken apart were all 38 to 40mm long on the inside. So going to the 3650 TP would give you 10mm worth, of more motor. I might go with a slightly higher Kv, TP, and use the same prop that your Dynamite is using now.

How much for the Hobbystar 4082?
