    Default Outerlimits SV43 build

This is my "baby" SV43 from Brusher Andy in Germany. It's 48" long, with about a 4.5" overhang on the back, and a stepped bottom design. His full size hull was 67" long, hence the baby moniker. The mold for this style hull was damaged and these are no longer in production, which is too bad. It was the best looking, scale version, in my opinion. My plan for the build is a single TP5680 motor on 12S, intended to run on rougher water at the lake we vacation at.

Step 1 was to figure out how to secure the hatch. It had no pins or lip. The angle of the front of the canopy made this project particularly difficult. Because there wasn't a lot of material to work with around the lip of the canopy itself, I decided to use carbon tabs instead of pins. Mocking them up and getting the slots cut in the hatch lip took a lot of work. Then I tacked the tabs in place, and built up a fair amount of epoxy and chopped fiber around each tab inside the canopy. Everything lines up and slides in place nicely. I left room for a neoprene hatch seal and will install two blind nut hatch locks on the rear corners to secure it in place.

Next up was installing a solid carbon transom doubler and mounting the MTC drive. I made a quick template, and cut the carbon plate on the band saw. Epoxied it into the hull with G Flex, loaded it full of lipos for weight, and let it sit overnight.

    IMG_20200515_202652.jpg

I wanted to use all black hardware on this build. The only drive I could find that was 1/4" flex with a 3/16" propshaft, long enough, and available in black was from WD200. Werner got it sent out from Germany pretty quickly, in fact, it was the first part to arrive! Can't believe how much room is in this hull compared to the small cats I'm used to.

    IMG_20200509_125117.jpg IMG_20200516_202242_01.jpg IMG_20200517_161828.jpg IMG_20200517_161930.jpg

I've got my motor and ESC from OSE, but waiting for the mount to arrive from MBP and the rest of my hardware from MTC in Germany. Trim tabs are with kfxguy getting powder coated. Once the parts are here, I can start mocking up my CoG and figure out where the batteries are going to go. Still undecided if i'm going to run 12S1P or 12S2P. The additional weight won't be a problem, it's a question if I can find a place to put it.

Similair to my H&M, its about 110cm overall it had a 5850 1000kv speeds ~ 65mph which ive replaced with a 3060 and cracking 75mph on a fairly small prop.. prather S235.

Bought it for windy days when my hpr 115 / 150 aren't much fun.
    Hpr 06 / 09 / 150 /185, Mhz Skater H45 hydro.

Our hulls were both around the same age, and at the time, they were some of the last built before the mold was damaged. I just heard from Andy today, that the mold has been fixed.

Basement flooded recently, dealing with that. Motor, water jacket and ESC are here, but rudder is waiting on black anodizing at MTC in Germany and MBP motor mount is en route from a friend in the UK. Was hoping to have it running for the 4th of July vacation trip, but that's not going to happen.

Not much progress to report. Got my Speedmaster trim tabs back from powder coating. Turned out great.

Made a little progress on the SV43 today. Nothing is glued yet, but the motor mounts and stuffing tube are all mocked up. Took a lot of time to clearance the motor mounts to fit the contours of the stepped hull. Had to sand the rear support on four different planes! I needed everything to sit as low as possible to keep the flex angle reasonable. Not sure of the flex cable I'm using is too stiff or not. Big change from the 3/16" cables I'm used to. Wondering if I might find something more flexible to create less drag. Hope my MTC rudder shows up soon. Been waiting on that delivery for quite a while now.

Thanks. Yes, 1/4" flex. It's pretty short and a 3/16 might have held up, but it didn't seem worth the risk. I just hope the cable I used is flexible enough and doesn't cause too much friction.

I'm glad to find your thread Fweasel. I just ordered a 59" SV43 for a first time build. I'm chomping at the bit for it to arrive and Steve here at OSE is being awesome at recommending equipment, ie. motor size etc. Please keep posting your progress! I will be watching and learning. Thanks!

oh dang, I need to check for new threads more often. Definitely following this one! I'm itching to build another mono, but a little smaller than my 70. I sure do like this hull, such a shame they're not available anymore

Ok, where did you source the hull from? I tried emailing Andy and never got a reply. I was only able to find an 38? baby RSV Raptor from Denis Olivier Mainh lt?s, out of Germany. I too wanted to build a twin mono, capable of handling rougher waters as well. I?m afraid 38 isn?t going to cut it, or effectively capable of running twins. I?m quite disappointed that I didn?t see this before I already dropped $550 for the hull.

Warrio17, the hull is no longer made, the mold was damaged. Jesse J has one he painted, but has not built. Perhaps he'll consider selling it to you.

It took longer than expected to get my rudder from MTC and I missed my Shootout deadline. Boat has been put on the back burner for this winter as motivation is low right now to spend much time in the workshop. The rudder did finally arrive and looks nice. As soon as I mocked it up in place, I realized the transom isn't perpendicular to the bottom of the hull. I'm going to send the mount out to have a 5* surface machined on it to correct that. I had considered trying it myself on my mini mill, but I know my limitations. The motor mount is in and incredibly solid. Nice to have something checked off the list. I bent a new stuffing tube because I wasn't happy with the first attempt. It still needs to be glued in place and finish the front support. I installed blind nuts and hatch screws on the rear of the canopy, and made some templates for a windshield and rear window decals. That's about it for now.

I also picked up a little brother hull. I'll build it as a 6S twin for the shootout next year.

It's a 38" (4" overhang) baby RSV Raptor. Andy built the mold, then sold it to another guy who is laying up the hulls and selling them in Germany. This is a double carbon layup and incredibly strong.

Dang Ryan, great minds n stuff! I too picked up a raptor hull!! Too bad we don’t live closer, I bet we’d have some fun hanging out building and racing!

I was thinking going the p mono route, since my OSE raider was such a success. 1800ish kv TP 4060 motor, mid 50s.. sounds like you are looking to make a veloci-Raptor! Will be watching closely.

Jesse, yes, they're great looking hulls. I have a double carbon hull in blue as well that I'm going to build as a single. Probably 8S, TP4060 1350kv

That boat is my favorite boat for the last 2 seasons.
Twin setup doing 72mph (115km/h) pretty stable on good props but cheap components... I really love that boat :-)

The performance is quite satisfying for using a twin setup consisting of SSS 4074 1600kV and Flycolor 150A on 6s2p.
I just had to replace the motor bearings but that is all and quite acceptable for a boat that I really ran a lot for 2 seasons.

    Best Regards, Eike

    Default Raptor set up

Son of a space management! That overhang and 5deg transom, every piece required sanding/dremmeling..

And you're only building a single! The overhang definitely makes it a challenging build.

Building the Baby Raptor with a twin setup is definately challenging.

Actually building it this way is not that bad yet when taking care of the right order but after 2 seasons I have modified the boat, added the turnfins, had to do maintanance so almost every part also got disassembled and with the motor mount quite far in the back this is definately not maintanance-firiendly.

On the other hand - if it would be all completely simple, it would not be a special boat and I love this boat as it does 70+mph still pretty stable on an all day setup. It will be a nice boat for you at the shootout and if you invest a little more then just 2x SSS4074 and Flycolor 150 on standard Turnigy LiPo you will also achieve even higher speeds in the straight line
