    Default Help with Motor Size

I could use a little help on a motor for the first FE Boat I have built. The hull is a Raider M34 which I have done CF inlay and installled speedmaster stinger strut and rudder. I will be running boat on a pond in back of house which is shaped a little larger that FB field. Which motor Leopard 4074-4082 or 4092.
Batts and esc have not been selected yet.
    Thank You for any help!

4082 1600 kv is a good choice. You could run on 4-5- or 6 S with some prop selection. It will give you a lot of battery options.

Do yourself a favor and start with a 40X74 motor. Any larger will yes go faster but finding the proper setup and prop will be difficult while your upside down. If you use 4S stay around 2000 kv. 6S and 1600kv will be faster and allow you to use a less expensive ESC since you won't pull as many amps. I have a DF 33 we ran competitively in P mono with a 2100kv 40X82mm TP. Needed an MGM25026 to cover 200 amp runs. Switched it over to our Q/limited class with a 1600kv 40X74 motor on 6S and it ran as fast or faster using a Flycolor 150 ESC. The data logger on the MGM showed 140 amps so I used the Flycolor (Raider). If your setting up for P class use the larger motor and a 200+ amp controller. If you want to sport run use a 40X74 on 6S that will give you all the speed that hull can handle with a $50 ESC. Your call, since I know you won't power it up you can limit your throttle to 80 or 90% till you find the setup. An M445 is a good start and you can always prop up from there.

The 4074x1600kv using 4s. At 70 that should match my reflexes.
Many thanks for your detailed help!

A 1600 om 4S will be in the low 50 mph range. On 6S I am high 50's low 60's.

That should work, like you said, with a lower price point esc. That will be my next part to hunt down.
Thank you again for your help

I have a Leopard 4074 2150 kv in one of my Pursuits on 4s with an M445 prop with Seaking 180 and it runs great. I chose the 4074 because it's easier on the amps. If you want to run 6s get a lower Kv motor like 1600. A longer can motor will let you run a larger prop.
