Default Turn fin location on transom for mono hull ?

Hi all noticed some turn fins mounted near the outer bottom chines other's mounted a 1/2 '' or so inwards towards the keel . How do the different locations affect turning and performance? Where would be a good starting location ? Regards Andris Golts.

For me, since they are for turning and not needed while going straight, I put them at the chine, perpendicular to the bottom and tip them up to just above the keel at the transom.

Damn, I didn't know that... Might be doing some drill and fill...

    Andris / Eddie.

Here's a pic of the transom of the recommended setup on the JC30, by the manufacturer.
Note that the fins are well out of the water when running in a straight line. That's how I've always set my fins too. As others have said, you don't want them dragging in the water up the straights.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about hydros. The one that is usually mounted to the right sponson. I didn't pay attention!

No worries mate. I do the same thing too from time to time.
I blame it on my age, my glasses, & lack of coffee.

But here's where I usually place the fins on a hydro if it is of any help.
