Default Need Advice OLD MRP Tunnel hull Electric Bud Light

    Hello

I have an OLD Bud Light MRP Tunel Hull electric outboard. It is well over 20 years old. It has been in storage and NEVER seen sunlight.

I would like to upgrade it to a modern brushless outboard system BUT I have heard that it is NOT good to use the hull as the plastic is weak now and will develop cracks.

Is this true? It`s NEVER seen the sun, No UV rays.

IF so, does anyone have sources of Free downloadable plans so I can build a similar style tunnel hull and length for electric brushless use?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

    George

I rescued one off flee-bay two years ago. I put the little F-3 mini outboard on it. Its not a race boat it just looks like one, I take it easy on the old boat. I've only ran it on 2s, it runs about 23 mph depending on propeller. You can run that little motor on 3s, maby one day I'll give it a go on 3s, I'm guessing low 30's for mph.

Yes, it is true. While UV will very rapidly degrade ABS, many such plastics will simply degrade with time and/or heat above 75*. While stabilizers can be added to the plastic, MRP used brittle, inexpensive (cheap) material because the boats weren’t intended to last five, ten or twenty years. I had to toss my own MRP Bud Lite a few years ago due to cracks at many sharp edges. Actually, even when new the hull developed cracks which CA didn’t cure for long.

Bottom line, you can update your hull and run it, but be prepared for leaks and broken parts. To build new:

    Hi
I have replied to a builder on line for a copy of his plans. Now I wait and see.
    Thanks
