    Post 51" victory cat setup?

I am currently running a TP 5670 720Kv 5Y, using a flier model dual esc. Let the magic smoke out of motor so it's time for upgrade. Looking for better single setup. Suggestions are welcome!!

41mm is an incredibly small diameter prop to push a 52" hull around.

Sorry, X460 cut down to 54mm, and a Victory cat is a catamaran.

Prop seems OK as does motor. How did it fail? Did it run hot?

Before we can give meaningful recommendations we need to understand why the original setup failed. We need these answers:

    - What voltage was the OP using?
    - Did he run parallel packs? What brand and capacity?
    - What timing was in the ESC?
    - How long did the boat run before it failed, 2 minutes, five minutes....?
    - Was the motor purchased new or used? Ever overheated?
    - Exactly how did the motor fail, does it still turn by hand? Are there signs of burning?
    - Why the cut-down propeller? A 54 mm prop is far too small to be efficient with that setup, the original x460 should have been fine.

I wonder where the OP got his setup advice. There is a very knowledgeable group of boaters just an hour away in Katy at the HOTMBC.....

Hey Fluid, My original set up was a rtr from the fine brothers. It was a Aeromarine aggressor 50". It was set up ready to run but from the beginning It would be hot after 4min. run, temp gun on motor 210°-240°. The motor was hand vibra marked on end bell so don't know if new or not also set to 30° timing. It was supposed to be all new. Original batteries were dinogy blue packs (6000mah 6s 65c). They were puffed after second run which I set on timer at 2 min . Original props that came with it were x425x455,x457. the origanal esc was flier model 300 amp 3-16s w/80vlt 6pk cap bank which blew(exploded in second run). I replaced with a 400 amp flier high voltage 90amp which is a dual esc. 4 battery wires 6 motor wires in a single motor. Probably not correct but worked. So that hull crashed do to receiver failure (wet). Now new Victory cat hull all gear transferred. Replaced batteries with giant power kitty sticks, 2x 6s 6000 mAh 70c for 12s 44.4vlts. haven't had a chance to run those packs yet, so tried Saturday. Got to the water no throttle. Back home on bench powered up and cell count beep only 5, should be 12. Began to check system. Unplugged throttle from receiver plugged back in and rebound. Was able to get throttle to work but still only 5cell beep count. Hit throttle a couple of times, motor within a few seconds smoke both ends. Motor wires very hot. Motor still turns by hand. I will either go with a 5680 or another 5670.? I will go with a 300amp swordfish and start over. The prop suggestions were from Dave Brown out of Florida when I told him I was having heat issues he suggested to cut them down. If I left anything out let me know. I feel the esc is the problem being a dual on a single motor is not going to work. Totally my fault.
    Thanks for your time.

We run 10,000 mah plus for racing where it's 2 minutes max run time. You only ran 6000 mah for 2 min. and the packs puffed because you over discharged them. I have built several big boats to electric and this is what I find works good. I run a TP 5680 4Y 680 KV on 10s dinogy 10,000 or 12,000 mah batteries. I run 4 - 5s 5000 packs to make a 10s -10,000 mah set up. For 12s I would run a 580 or 600 kv motor. I turn a 7016 380 prop but an ABC 2614 chopper or Oct. 470 3 blade would work too. 4 minutes is a good run in a boat especially a big one. It's also better to turn a bigger prop a little slower than spinning a small prop faster. I hope this helps.

Yes, sorry. 4 3s packs in series at 6000mah would be 44.4 vlts = 6000 mah
