Default Help with motor for 1/8 scale hydro hull

I am building a Gary Finlay 1/8 scale atlas Hydroplane and in need of some guidance on the motor size for this scale. I see in racing that most people are running a 50MM motor, but just for recreational running would a 40MM motor have enough power? Your input on this would be appreciated.

Actually, most racers use 40 mm motors, it’s in both the NAMBA and IMPBA rules. The Neu 1527/850 Kv motor or the equivalent HET Typhoon, Turnigy SK3 or Leopard motors are specified, all running 8S. 40mm motors around 100 mm long with a Kv around 850 will work great for your use.
